Steam received a brand new update yesterday that might interest some of you who own one (or multiple) of the Switch’s retro controllers.
VGC reports that Valve’s digital platform now supports the NES, SNES, N64, and Mega Drive / Genesis controllers. So you can play classics like Glover, multiple Mega Drive games, Chrono Trigger, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, and plenty more using the controller you were always meant to play with! or perhaps you can play Elden Ring with an NES controller if you so wish.
Valve’s patch notes state that it “Added support for Nintendo Online classic controllers”, though The Verge has since confirmed with the company that this is only for those official retro controllers.
You can remap the controls to your liking, too, just like with any other controller you can use on the platform. Pretty nifty, hey? This should inspire plenty of weird and wonderful ways to play games on Steam.
Will you be using your retro controllers on Steam? Let us know in the comments!
