X-Men’s Emma Frost Has a Secret History With the Kingpin

[ad_1]

The X-Men’s tie-in with Daredevil’s Devil’s Reign event sees Emma Frost’s relationship with the Kingpin exposed as the past comes back to haunt her.

The Kingpin’s connection to the X-Men’s Emma Frost will come to light in the midst of Daredevil’s upcoming battle for survival.

Devil’s Reign is an upcoming miniseries event by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checcetto that follows up on their acclaimed Daredevil run. In this new storyline, Mayor Wilson Fisk outlaws vigilante justice in New York in an attempt to assert himself as the city’s ultimate authority. The book will impact all of the heroes who call Manhattan home, as well as a number of the city’s former residents. Though the former Kingpin is set to wed Typhoid Mary, his connections to another telepathic mutant will be the focus of Devil’s Reign: X-Men by Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto, as Emma Frost is forced to answer for her past.

As Marvel’s solicit text for the issue suggests, the “dirty deeds” Emma committed on behalf of the Kingpin will come to light in the series. Throughout the most recent Daredevil run, Fisk conferred with a council of criminals with connections to New York City’s past. Given Emma’s ties to the many incarnations of the Upper East Side’s Hellfire Club, it seems likely her actions as the White Queen will be the catalyst for Kingpin’s call.

Though Emma has been associated with the X-Men for the better part of the last two decades, she continues to be one of the least trusted and morally ambiguous members of the team. As was recently revealed, she had used her telepathic abilities to spy on the Hellions through one of her former students, due to her own trust issues with the team. Despite Emma’s clear sense of self-preservation, Professor X also trusted her with the knowledge that Moira MacTaggert had been secretly guiding the X-Men’s activities for years. This revelation broke Emma’s trust in Xavier, as she was disgusted to learn that he had been lying to her all along, keeping the true secret behind the team’s recent prosperity to himself.

With all of New York’s criminals and police under his control, the Kingpin’s war against vigilantes will also be the catalyst for a new miniseries starring the current Daredevil. The aptly named Daredevil: Woman Without Fear, written by Zdarsky and drawn by Rafael De Latorre, follows Elektra Natchios during the events of Devil’s Reign. Like the former White Queen, Elektra’s vow to be a better person and refrain from killing criminals may prove to be her undoing, as the Marvel Universe’s greatest hunters try to end her life once and for all.
