Keith Lee addresses his departure from WWE television, revealing he was dealing with a COVID-19 infection that became life-threatening.
Keith Lee has given his first public comments on his extended absence from WWE television, revealing he suffered from a near-death coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.
“The first recording of this went over 13 minutes….. so I said and detailed far less, but I said enough,” Lee wrote on Twitter. He also shared a six-minute video where he discussed everything he had been through between January and now.
“So as some of you know, toward the end of January I missed about three weeks on TV,” he continued. “At that time I contracted COVID.” Lee then stopped to clear up some misinformation that had floated around on social media. While some fans believed Lee’s fiance and fellow WWE Superstar Mia Yim gave him COVID, the truth was he gave it to her as she nursed him back to health. This caused Yim to miss this year’s edition of Royal Rumble.
Even though Lee came back for one match against Matt Riddle, his blood work came back off, resulting in him being shutdown from any physical activities. Lee was in a “fight against death” as he had MRIs run to test for any type of heart disease. Eventually, the inflammation in his heart went down, and Lee was able to begin training again.
Keith Lee made his WWE return on the July 19 edition of Raw. He accepted WWE Champion Bobby Lashley’s open challenge, though he would turn out to be the loser in the competition.
