Witcher 3: Lilac and Gooseberries Walkthrough

[ad_1]

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt finally restored Geralt’s lost memories, which had been missing since he was discovered by Triss Merigold on the outskirts of Kaer Morhen in the first game. Filling his head with dreams of lilac and gooseberries, the trademark perfume of his sorceress lover, Yennefer, Geralt wakes thoughtful and more determined than ever to find her.

Geralt shares the details of his dream and seeks advice from Vesemir on how to proceed in their search for Yen, and once their conversation ends, the world opens up for Geralt to explore. “Lilac and Gooseberries” is the first official quest in Wild Hunt‘s main storyline, leading players to the village of White Orchard, where Geralt hopes to finally land a lead that will reunite him with Yennefer.

Mission: Follow Vesemir

As soon as Geralt and Vesemir break camp, the first real combat of the game begins when they are attacked by ghouls. Drawing Geralt’s silver sword, make short work of them and inspect the area to find and pick up Yennefer’s crystal skull for 50XP. Mount Roach and follow Vesemir on the road until crossing the bridge and arriving at a ransacked and abandoned village. There, they meet with a merchant during a short cutscene, discovering he’s been trapped by a griffin. This begins a quick battle, during which Vesemir is wounded. When the merchant emerges, Geralt can either accept the offer of a reward, or refuse it for a free meal at the tavern in White Orchard and a later discount on the merchant’s wares.

Return to the road and ride to Nilfgaard-occupied White Orchard to speak with the people there about Yennefer. Enter the tavern and speak to the owner, who has no information but directs Geralt to speak other patrons. While Vesemir tends to his wound at a table near the back of the tavern, Geralt can walk around asking patrons about Yennefer.

There is really only one patron who actually has information: Gaunter O’Dimm. Speaking with O’Dimm, he recognizes Yennefer by her description and says that she spoke with the Nilfgaardian captain before riding off again. He suggests that Geralt ride out to the Nilfgaardian garrison, as they will likely know more about the woman he seeks.

Mission: Head to the Nilfgaardian Garrison

While leaving the tavern, Geralt is accosted by three men from inside the tavern. Use the Axii sign to calm and subdue one of the men for a 25XP bonus. Taking them on one at a time leaves the other two in waiting until their current foe is defeated. Once they’ve all been defeated, head to the north end of the village, towards the Nilfgaardian Garrison.

There are plenty of enemies to fight on the way to the garrison and a side quest for pick up. Upon reaching the garrison, head inside and speak to Captain Peter Saar Gwynleve about Yennefer. Seeing that Geralt is a witcher, the captain offers an exchange of information about Yen if Geralt will see to a witcher’s task for him.

The griffin Geralt and Vesemir encountered earlier has been terrorizing White Orchard and making the captain’s job more difficult. If Geralt eliminates it, the captain will tell him what he knows. After hearing a few tips about how to lure and slay the beast, leave the garrison. The quest objective temporarily changes to “The Beast of White Orchard.”

Mission: Slay the Beast of White Orchard

First, head to the hunter’s hut marked on the map and speak to Mislav. Mislav is out hunting, so use Geralt’s witcher abilities to find and follow his tracks into the woods. Upon finding him, either tell him you’re in a hurry or help him slay the dogs nearby. Either way, he will eventually lead Geralt to the site of the griffin attack so he can examine the area.

There are clues to find and follow with Geralt’s witcher senses, eventually leading to the conclusion that there were Nilfgaardian soldiers celebrating in the area. Follow their tracks to the griffin’s nest to discover the real reason the griffin is rampaging: Nilfgaardians killed his mate while she was sleeping, provoking it to take out its anger on the nearby village.

After gathering evidence from the site, meet with the village herbalist, Tomira. There is a secondary quest available in her hut, so either pick it up or ignore it before searching for the ingredient essential to luring in the griffin: buckthorn. Tomira directs Geralt to the riverbed. Dive in, keeping an eye out for nekkers, and gather the necessary buckthorn before going back to White Orchard to speak with Vesemir.

Meet Vesemir at the site of the ambush, and he will give Geralt his first crossbow of the game before leaving him to take on the beast alone. Firing the crossbow at the griffin will force it to land, allowing Geralt to attack. Avoid attacking from the front, as it has easier access to landing vicious attacks. Once the griffin’s health reaches the halfway point, it will fly off. Mount up or run to follow it to a nearby cave and employ the same battle strategies as before to defeat it. Once it’s dead, return to the Nilfgaardian garrison and report to Peter, who will offer a reward and tell Geralt that Yennefer went to Vizima.

Mission: Leave White Orchard

Witcher 3 Yennefer and her Nilfgaardian escort

Head back to the tavern to meet with Vesemir and prepare to leave White Orchard. A group of bandits is creating havoc in the tavern, which leads to a brawl between the bandits and the witchers. After the fight, the villagers are so rattled that they ask the witchers to leave town. As they are leaving, they encounter a Nilfgaardian patrol led by Yennefer herself.

Yennefer tells Geralt he must follow her to Vizima for an audience with the emperor, who has requested his presence. From there, Geralt follows her, parting ways with Vesemir, who heads back to Kaer Morhen to avoid political affiliations. As Geralt and Yennefer ride to Vizima, a cutscene follows during which they are attacked by the Wild Hunt. There is no gameplay required here; simply watch as Yennefer destroys the bridge and cuts them off so the pair can ride to temporary safety in Vizima.
