Winter She-Hulk Just Crushed an Entire Marvel TEam

[ad_1]

As She-Hulk is subjected to cruel experiments in Avengers, the gamma-radiated hero immediately targets a classic Marvel superhero team.

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Avengers #47, on sale now from Marvel.

With the Avengers’ Russian rivals the Winter Guard having struck first against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in their own headquarters, the team has found itself on the defensive, with one of their strongest members kidnapped from right under their noses: She-Hulk. And with Jennifer Walters subjected to the physical and psychological cruelties of the Red Room to transform into an even more savage version of She-Hulk, she has already claimed her first victims by turning on the Winter Guard themselves as she launches a gamma-radiated rampage.

Imprisoned within the Red Room’s covert bunker deep within the Siberian tundra, She-Hulk is put through mental conditioning that has her face visions of Black Widows attacking her while she is restrained to the floor. As the Winter Guard gloat over her, they notice that she is not as savage and unstoppable as she makes herself out to be, with her mental defenses and sense of self-awareness allowing Jen to keep her wits about her from a week under the intense pressures of the Red Room. And though Jen’s mind and body are protected by immense amounts of gamma radiation, she is eventually broken by the rigors of the clandestine program and transforms into the Winter Hulk. And the first targets on her smashing list are the very figures that captured and tormented her, with Avengers #47 — by Jason Aaron, Javier Garron, David Curiel and VC’s Cory Petit — showing She-Hulk at her most furious.

Winter She-Hulk

With the Avengers attacking the Red Room directly on a rescue mission to free She-Hulk, the Winter Guard decides to accelerate their plans to transform She-Hulk into one of their own and unleash her on her former allies. This move proves to be a disastrous tactical error, with She-Hulk immediately destroyed the synthetic Russian hero Vostok before turning her attention to the rest of the Winter Guard. Crimson Dynamo is laid out by a single mighty punch while the Red Guardian is choked out as the rest of the Avengers look on in terror. And as She-Hulk storms out into the unrelenting winter, even Red Widow comes out horribly maimed, having cut off her own arm to escape after being temporarily trapped in the chaos.

In recent years, Jen has struggled with her super-powered alter ego after keeping both sides of her personality under control for much of her superhero career. Following the crossover event Civil War II, She-Hulk achieved a grey, insectoid form and, while Jen eventually regained her usual green hue, she was much more savage and angry than she had been before. She-Hulk’s resurrection during the crossover event Empyre would restore most of her senses. But with the Phoenix Force having recently imprinted on her along with the usual complications of acute gamma radiation, She-Hulk is more unpredictable than ever.

She-Hulk Red Guardian

In trying to convert one of the Avengers into the ultimate, gamma-radiated weapon, the Winter Guard has accidentally created a monster that singlehandedly smashed through the infamous Red Room and blew through the team like they were little more than an inconvenience. The Avengers weren’t forced to come to blows with their brainwashed friend, if only because they managed to stay out of her way. And with She-Hulk still transformed into the Winter Hulk and on the loose, the entire Marvel Universe now stands at risk of becoming collateral damage in her next rampage.
