Air, the Eisner-nominated 2008 Vertigo Comics series from writer G. Willow Wilson and artist M.K. Perker, is returning to print. Dark Horse Comics has announced that the series will receive new trade paperback collected editions through the publisher’s Karen Berger-curated Berger Books imprint. The first volume of the new collections will arrive in September, and will feature new cover art by Perker.
Here’s how Dark Horse describes Air Volume 1:
Acrophobic flight attendant Blythe has just fallen for a mysterious traveler– who may or may not be a terrorist– and she’s about to embark on the strangest journey of her life. Searching for him, Blythe will crash-land into a web of technological conspiracies, dark politics and cryptic orders. When she learns that she is the only person able to control flight and reality, with science so advanced it might be magic, she’ll have to break the rules of time and space for answers.
Air was originally published by Vertigo Comics for 24 issues from 2008 to 2010, with Karen Berger serving as one of the original editors on the book, which was nominated for an Eisner Award in 2009 for Best New Series. The series, the second collaboration between G. Willow Wilson and M.K. Perker after their 2007 graphic novel, Cairo, was previously collected into four trade paperbacks.
The arrival of Air at Berger Books makes Wilson’s latest work to find a home at Berger Books, after Wilson and artist Christian Ward‘s Invisible Kingdom. In a statement announcing the new printings, Wilson and Berger both expressed their enthusiasm at bringing the series back to print for a new audience:
“I’m thrilled to reunite with the original team behind this series for its second life at Berger Books,” said G. Willow Wilson. “It was an adventure working with M.K. and Karen to shape this world of surreal flight technology, alternate history and shadowy secret organizations back in 2008, and now a whole new readership gets to experience this series for the first time.”
“Air stole my heart when I first published the series at Vertigo,” said Karen Berger. “It’s a one-of-a-kind illuminating and exhilarating story about an unconventional heroine and an unforgettable cast of characters including an alive and soaring Amelia Earhart. It showcases the exceedingly talented G. Willow Wilson very early in her formidable career with sensational art by M.K. Perker. I’m thrilled to re-present one of my all-time faves!”
Look for the new edition of Air Volume 1 from Dark Horse Comics & Berger Books with a cover price of $19.99 in comic shops on Wednesday, September 14th, and in bookstores on Tuesday, September 27th.
