Will Marvel’s Other Guardians of the Galaxy Ever Make a Comeback?

[ad_1]

The Guardians of the Galaxy aren’t Marvel’s only cosmic heroes, and one group in particular deserves another chance in the spotlight.

The Guardians of the Galaxy have been the Marvel Universe’s first line of cosmic defense for years. However, they aren’t the only team of heroes who have taken up the task of protecting the galaxy. The Space Knights are a group of lesser-known cosmic heroes who haven’t had much time to shine, despite having teamed up with some of the most iconic figures in the Marvel Universe. Even worse, the Space Knights have been relegated to galactic obscurity, with very little chance of making a real comeback.

Introduced in 2016’s Guardians of Infinity #2, by Robbie Thompson and Jim Cheung, the cosmic heroes have since faded into obscurity, making few appearances. That was reflected in the comics when Rocket Raccoon initially encountered the Space Knights and thought they were nothing more than myth. Interesting enough, one of the Knights, Earo, developed a romantic relationship of sorts with Drax the Destroyer, although even that wasn’t enough to lift the team out of obscurity.

In 2016’s Venom: Space Knight #11, by Thompson and Gerardo Sandoval, the team worked alongside a ragtag group of other aliens to repair the broken wings of their latest member, Wink. With the help of Flash Thompson and fellow Space Knights Iqa, Tarna, 803, and Pik and Hilla Rollo, the heroes were able to attain the cure for Wink. However, they once again disappeared upon completion of their mission, and haven’t been seen since.

Just because the Space Knights haven’t been seen in the comics recently doesn’t mean they won’t reappear. Despite sporting a colorful and memorable line-up, the Space Knights have never been given a chance to shine. The Knights have already proved able to handle genuinely intimidating threats, and each of them is endearing and entertaining. Unfortunately, their lack of popularity prevents the Knights from being anything more than the forgotten cosmic heroes of the Marvel Universe.

Complicating matters is that the Space Knights have yet to take center stage in any especially meaningful conflict, cosmic or otherwise. Still, even the Guardians of the Galaxy didn’t become household names until after their breakthrough success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, suggesting a similar phenomenon could also occur for these heroes.

If the Space Knights are ever going to make a home for themselves on the small or big screens, they will have to first find a larger role to fill within the primary Marvel Universe. As it stands, this great group of heroes runs the risk of perpetually being lost in the background.
