In my professional job here in the Garden State, I spend a lot of time interviewing and reviewing resumes, and honestly, your online presence plays a big role in how others see you. Think of your social media as a digital introduction—it’s often one of the first things people check out, especially in a professional setting. Constantly posting negative stuff on public accounts can give off a bad impression. I get it; we’ve all had rough days (Im also a milenial who is chronically online lol) But letting negativity become a habit online can work against you. Especially on a public account. Here are 5 reasons to reconsider hitting “post” on that rant:
- It Ends Up Bringing You Down
Venting might feel good in the moment, but being negative all the time actually affects your own mood. You might feel even worse in the long run. Especially going back and rereading. - It’s Not Great for Jobs
Employers often check out social media during hiring, and a feed full of complaints can make them wonder about your attitude. - Others Feel It Too
Your posts reach a lot of people. Constant negativity can bring them down, even if you’re just sharing what’s on your mind. - You Might Regret It Later
Those posts you made in a bad mood? They stick around. Sometimes, they don’t look so great after the fact. - Is It Really Helping?
Before posting, think about what you’re hoping to get from it. If it’s just to vent, maybe save it for a private space.
If you need to let it out, consider a private account, a group chat, or even just writing it out somewhere that’s not public.
