After becoming famous from her turn on the CW teen drama One Tree Hill, Bush took her career in a new direction playing a no-nonsense investigator who knew how to get things done. And despite the love for her character and the potential for a long-term gig, Bush ultimately decided to leave the series after season four. Who Was Erin Lindsay On Chicago P.D?
Erin Lindsay was a compassionate and hard-nosed detective whose desire to help and willingness to bend the rules often got her in trouble. Bush embodied a character who wasn’t afraid to push back in order to do help others, no matter the cost. Lindsay experienced a rough childhood and eventually became an addict, struggling on the streets of Chicago. Luckily, Detective Hank Voight took her under his wing and she was eventually taken in by his family, who helped her through recovery. Seeing Voight’s desire to do good, Lindsay decided to join the force and ended up in his elite intelligence unit.
Lindsay certainly goes through a lot in the four seasons that her character was on the series. From being re-united with her half-brother Teddy, who was kidnapped and sex trafficked at a young age, to being stalked by Law and Order antagonist Gregory Yates. Erin Lindsay’s relationship with the serial killer is central to her arc, as she loses her best friend at his hand and avenges her death by killing him in season two. This event sends Lindsay on a spiral, which leads to her relapse and a story arc that depicts addiction in an honest and profound way. In season four, Lindsay left the unit and departed Chicago to join the FBI after Internal Affairs investigates her use of force on a murder and kidnapping suspect.
Why Sophia Bush Left Chicago P.D.
The One Chicago universe is no stranger to the shuffling of characters as some actors depart and others join the series. However, Sophia Bush’s exit from the series was abrupt, which led to a great amount of speculation regarding the circumstances. Bush has gone on record and explained her reasoning, citing a toxic work environment and allegations of assault.
In 2018, Bush appeared as a guest on Dax Shepard’s hit podcast “Armchair Expert” and opened up regarding her experiences on the NBC series. She confided in the hosts and listeners that, “It was a consistent onslaught of abusive behavior.” Bush gave an example by saying, ” When your bosses tell you if you raise a ruckus you’ll cost everyone their jobs, you believe them.” The actor said she learned from her time on One Tree Hill, adding, “I quit because, what I learned is I’ve been programmed to be a good girl and to be a workhorse and be a tug boat that I have always prioritized tugging the boat for the crew, for the show, for the group ahead of my own health.”
Furthermore, Bush has opened up regarding her experiences of alleged sexual harassment and verbal abuse at the hand of her co-star, Jason Beghe. NBCUniversal and Wolf Productions opened an investigation into Beghe’s behavior that resulted in what they deemed to be a series of reprimands. Beghe is still a part of the main cast on Chicago P.D. despite the accusations and investigation. Bush has continued to cultivate a successful career for herself after her departure from the series.
