PSO2 New Genesis’ newly-introduced Battledia Quests provide a more efficient way for players to progress through the endgame.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis has just received a major update that adds the Bouncer class, brings back the Mission Pass, upgrades the Mining Urgent Quest and introduces exciting new Battledia Quests. These are likely to become a huge part of the late-game for this MMO with everything they provide without taking away from the larger world. Hopefully, these quests will stick around unlike in the original PSO2 where they would change with each new episode.
Battledia Quests were announced in last month’s NGS Headline video along with a slew of other content headed players way over the next couple of months. There are two types available: yellow quests and purple quests. The yellow ones are available to all, while the purple ones are meant for end-game players. There are some requirements to do them, however.
To do any of the Battledia quests, players will need to gather five Battle Triggers, which are keys used to unlock special portals around Aelio leading to these new quests. These keys are dropped by enemies randomly, which means players of all levels will have incentive to explore, do dailies and fight in ranked areas to find them. After acquiring these keys, players will need to gather a four-player party to complete a Battledia Quest. These quests have the potential to keep the larger world lively while also providing a way for players to level up faster and get endgame equipment and augments to prepare for whatever is next.
Battledia: Yellow quests are meant for all players, as the enemies are standard and the quests give good amounts of experience, a ton of materials and three to four-star equipment. These are good for newcomers, leveling other classes and grinding up gear, providing a much better way to do these things. While dailies and weeklies were fine for leveling, it was still slow after level 15, and spending hours in a ranked area hoping for good grinding fodder was tedious.
The Battledia: Purple quests are much harder and meant for endgame players who already have some good equipment. These essentially test players mettle by requiring them to take out as many Gigantix bosses as possible within a time limit. These are the hardest enemies currently in the game, and only max level players can participate.
While this sounds like a ridiculous quest, it’s important to remember only four players are allowed, which means the Gigantix health pool is significantly lower than in the overworld. Players at this point in the game are often stuck waiting for Gigantix spawns to gather augments, as they’ve already acquired the best gear. This quest solves that problem by giving them a way to farm for the best augments and items in the game.
Battledia Quests provide a great way to get players ready for endgame content without taking away from the open world NGS has leaned into. It also encourages people to play together to complete these quests. It will be interesting to see players comparing how many Gigantix they managed to slay in the time limit too. Overall, Battledia seems like the perfect addition to NGS.
