A new teaser for Inferno suggests one of three longtime X-Men could betray Krakoa, and all of them have been actually set up as traitors.
The current era of X-Men has been a high-water mark for the mutant race, with the heroes and villains of that corner of the Marvel Universe coming together to try and elevate their people. But things have been slowly cracking around the edges, with the fires of the upcoming Inferno threatening to bring down Krakoa from the inside.
This includes questions over which mutants might be willing to turn against their nation. One of the teasers for Inferno reveals that Bishop, Colossus, and Psylocke are potential traitors to Krakoa, and each of them has already offered a few reasons why they might be the guilty party.
BISHOP
The time-displaced Bishop has been a longtime ally and member of the X-Men, except for the period following Messiah Complex when he briefly hunted Cable and Hope Summers through time. He even specifically tried to help the X-Men ferret out a traitor amongst them when he first arrived in the present-day. In the age of Krakoa, he’s had two major duties: he’s served as a member of the Marauders under the command of Kate Pryde as her Red Bishop, as well as one of the War Captains of Krakoa — effectively military commanders of the island nation.
But there have been hints that Bishop might be playing secretive roles — and if not actively trying to cause chaos on Krakoa, then still something of a problem for some of its citizens. During King in Black, Beast was able to convince Bishop to ignore his orders from Pryde and shoot to kill the symbiote-infected Cyclops and Storm, hinting that he’s okay being used by different organizations against one another. He’s also suggested the idea of fusing mutant DNA into new forms — inadvertently arguing for Chimeras, which became a major part of Moira MacTaggert’s previous failed timelines. Bishop’s attempts to protect Krakoa might only bring chaos to the island.
COLOSSUS
Colossus has found himself increasingly removed from the inner workings of Krakoa. The soft-spoken powerhouse briefly worked as a part of X-Force, but grew disillusioned and left the team after Domino allowed herself to die mid-mission. He’s returned to farming and painting, even seemingly finding a potential new love interest in the water-manipulating Kayla. His most recent involvement in the goings-on of Krakoa came when Beast suspected him of being a traitor to the island and publicly announced his interrogation, earning the ire of Wolverine and Dominio in the process.
Although Colossus was seemingly exonerated from those charges, it’s possible they may have motivated him to turn against Beast and his allies. An internal monologue from Colossus suggested his anger at Beast was palpable. Considering that his brother Mikhail is moving against Krakoa, it’s possible that Colossus could be working with him or even just being manipulated by forces outside of control. That’s especially troubling if he moves into a leadership position, as has been suggested. If so, then Beast’s investigation might have even been the final push to take Colossus and make him an enemy of Krakoa.

PSYLOCKE
Psylocke might not want to be in a position to betray Krakoa — but she might not have a choice. The former villain has found a home for herself on Krakoa, becoming a leader of the Hellions and even becoming an overt ally of Cyclops, serving as his eyes and ears on the Mister Sinister-led team. However, Psylocke also has a major secret: the consciousness of her daughter is alive — albeit in digital form — and in the possession of Mister Sinister. In exchange for her services, Sinister is prepared to keep her safe, more or less blackmailing Psylocke into his confidence.
But as insurance, Sinister has arranged for her consciousness to be held within Arcade’s former base, which currently serves as Sinister’s secret off-Krakoa lab. If Psylocke were to tell Cyclops or the Quiet Council about his deceptions, then her daughter would likely be destroyed in the crossfire. While Psylocke might not be happy about the situation, she’s already actively betraying Krakoa’s interests by assisting Sinister and keeping his secrets. If they were to come to light, it could paint the former assassin in a very poor light.
