Another rumor that had been going around lately has to do with Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman film and the role being played by Eternals actor Barry Keoghan. The folks at the Hollywood Reporter don’t claim to know the answer to that, but they’re saying that Warner Bros has been out doing test screenings of the film with two different versions, one with a certain actor and one without, to get audience reaction. The final test screenings happened last week and the studio has made their decision… which we won’t know for sure until the movie opens on March 4th, 2022.
Following the initial screening of the film, rumors began to circulate that Keoghan was playing the renowned DC villain The Joker, who as anyone with a pulse knows is Batman’s arch-nemesis. And now that the studio is waffling on whether or not to preserve a hidden character appearance in the film, this hypothesis has gained even more traction among DC fans.
The Batman is establishing a new world for the character, one that Matt Reeves has vowed will be unlike any we’ve seen before. Many references and character cameos may cross over into the film along this road, laying the groundwork for the future of this new Batman film series. As a result, it’s only natural to consider which characters should be included in those references and which should be excluded.
While there are no genuine verifiable reports to back up claims about Keoghan’s secret role, if accurate, the audience will be shocked. Whether Warner Bros. chooses to pique the audience’s interest in the series’ future or leaves us in the dark will have a significant impact on the film’s final cut.
On March 4, 2022, The Batman will be released exclusively in theaters. The film stars Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffery Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Jayme Lawson, Barry Keoghan, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell, and is directed by Matt Reeves.
