Watch: ‘Star Wars Visions’ May Prove that Star Wars Isn’t Quite Dead

Star Wars Visions seems poised to bring sci-fi’s most beloved franchise into a new era. After years of poor shepherding by Disney, particularly the Skywalker saga of films, this new anime series is set to debut starting this September. Below, the first trailer for Star Wars Visions showcases what the anthology anime will be like, and it looks like Disney+ has commissioned an incredibly beautiful show.

But don’t forget, those trailers for The Last Jedi looked beautiful too.

The trailer gives us a closer look at the shorts making up Star Wars Visions. From ancient worlds to Sith feuds, with possibly the very best animation that Lucasfilm has ever had. The is courtesy of studios like TRIGGER and Science Saru.

This looks great. Perhaps the best animation I’ve ever seen of Star Wars, except perhaps the animation work by Paul “OtaKing” Johnson’s from almost a decade ago, seen below remastered with music from Rogue One.

Star Wars Visions, the original series featuring stories from seven visionary Japanese anime studios, will begin streaming September 22 on Disney+ with an English and Japanese voice cast.
