Watch: First 5 Minutes of Roland Emmerich’s SciFi Disaster ‘Moonfall’
The opening five minutes of Roland Emmerich’s latest “disaster porn” Moonfall has been released online by Lionsgate Pictures. Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson act as two astronauts who must solve the mystery of the Moon in order to prevent the impending apocalypse. You may watch the tense video below.
In Emmerich’s previous films, we’ve seen ice ages, alien invasions, and huge lizards wreaking havoc on the planet, but this time he’s taken it a step further. Emmerich was influenced by the hollow moon conspiracy hypothesis while creating Moonfall. Emmerich co-wrote the screenplay with Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen, in addition to directing. The following is a synopsis of Moonfall’s plot:
In Moonfall, a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Halle Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson), and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley) believes her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is.
Alongside Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson, Moonfall also stars John Bradley (Game of Thrones), Michael Peña (End of Watch), Donald Sutherland (Hunger Games), Charlie Plummer (Lean on Pete), and Eme Ikwuakor (Inhumans). Made on a massive budget of $150 million, Moonfall could be a thrill ride in IMAX.
Moonfall lands in theaters on February 4, 2022.
