WandaVision’s Agatha Harkness Is Meddling With Another MCU Hero’s Marriage

The apparent return of Agatha Harkness might spell trouble for one of the Marvel Universe’s most important relationships.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Hulking and Wiccan: Infinity Comic #1, available now on Marvel Unlimited.

One of the Marvel Universe’s most stable relationships is the one shared between Hulking and Wiccan, with the pair even tying the knot. But there may be trouble in paradise, and it appears to be at the hand of a powerful Marvel mystic.

In Hulking and Wiccan: Infinity Comic by Josh Trujillo, Jodi Nishijima, Matt Milla, and VC’s Ariana Maher, the happy couple are targeted by Agatha Harkness, who may be becoming more like her Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart

Wiccan Hulking Agatha Harkness 1

Wiccan and Hulking have been nigh-inseparable since they were introduced together during the course of Young Avengers. Their bond eventually turned romantic, and their love only grew more passionate as they both proved to be far more important to the future of the Marvel Universe than anyone may have originally expected. The pair even wed around the time that Hulking was formally made Emperor of the Kree/Skrull Alliance. This position included performing royal duties and even hosting events with others in the hero community, which sets off the plot of the Hulking and Wiccan: Infinity comic. The pair decide to have a fancy dinner with three representatives from Krakoa, all of whom are also openly gay men: Northstar and his husband Kyle, along with (the seemingly single) Iceman.

Although the dinner is mostly a nice one, with Northstar and Kyle giving the younger couple relationship advice, an argument over where they’ll be living for the foreseeable future threatens to turn into a far more serious discussion and become the first genuine disagreement that the pair have encountered as a couple. Although the two try to navigate through their differences of opinion, Hulking is drawn away by his duties as Emperor. Billy is surprised by a video game called “Possibilities” — which seems to be a spell orchestrated by Agatha Harkness to show the pair how their lives could be different if they were romantically involved with someone else.

Wiccan Hulking Agatha Harkness 2

Agatha Harkness has a complex place within the Marvel Universe. Agatha has served as a mentor and guardian to multiple characters, perhaps most notably the Scarlet Witch. She helped train her in her mystical abilities and was involved in the apparent dissolution of Wanda Maximoff’s children. Wanda even briefly seemed to kill her during Avengers Disassembled only for the witch to have been recently restored to life. Unlike her MCU counterpart — who was quickly established as a far more threatening figure and actively seeking to steal the power of the Scarlet Witch for herself — Agatha has largely been a more heroic figure, although one with her own motivations and manipulative elements.

But it seems she has plans for Wiccan and Hulking, and her manipulations feel more in-tune with her on-screen incarnation. In the Disney+ series WandaVision, she manipulated Wanda and the magically restored Vision. It isn’t clear exactly what the comics Agatha is planning by introducing these ideas to the pair, but it’s unlikely to be a good thing. It’s even possible Agatha could be taking cues from her TV appearance and aiming to steal the mystical energies from a powerhouse — only this time it’s the Scarlet Witch’s son (and his shockingly impressive amount of magical power) instead of the Scarlet Witch herself. But given her comics history as a mentor instead of an enemy, it could also be a means to help impart knowledge and experience on the young sorcerer and his husband.
