The rivalry between the Walker and Davidson families escalates over a seemingly friendly cook-off. Here’s a spoiler-filled recap of the latest Walker.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Walker Season 2, Episode 3, “Barn Burner,” which aired Thursday, November 11th on The CW.
While the crime syndicate the Northside Nation has seemingly been dealt with for good, with its leader Serrano taken into custody by the Texas Rangers following an undercover bust led by Micki Ramirez and her partner Cordell Walker, the Walker family is still very much in danger. Ever since the start of Season 2, the family has dealt with the return of their old rivals, the Davidsons, who previously lost their family ranch to the Walkers when a barn fire involving Walker led to the death of their patriarch Marvin years ago. And while Walker attempts to make amends between the two families, this has proved fruitless as the feud escalates over a seemingly friendly chili cook-off.
The shadowy figure that has been running surveillance on the Walker family from inside their own home continues their voyeuristic observation, from Walker having nightmares about the Davidson barn burning down when he was a boy to Stella and Colton Davidson growing closer as they care for the injured, stray horse they found on the way home. After overhearing Liam mention their boss Serrano has been arrested, the voyeurs are revealed to be working for the Northside Nation and believe their whole surveillance operation to be a bust. Initially, the two spies consider pulling the plug on the entire surveillance job entirely and hit the road but decide to stick around and find a buyer for the illicit access they have into the daily life of a Texas Ranger and Assistant District Attorney.
Abigail prepares for a major chili cook-off at the Side Step, deciding to use a secret family recipe to pull out all the stops to win. Troubled by his resurgent nightmares of Denise Davidson’s father dying in the barn fire, Walker decides to extend an invite to the Davidsons to join in on the cook-off in an effort to mend fences. Noticing something is wrong after Walker snaps at his son August, Bonham warns his son that Gale Davidson will stop at nothing to destroy the Walker family for the tragedy and manipulate any opportunity to continue this vendetta but concedes to Walker’s move. Gale and her son-in-law Dan Miller tacitly accept on their family’s behalf though Abigail is furious when she learns about this development back at the ranch afterward.
With things still fragile between Micki and Trey Barnett’s relationship after Micki’s extended undercover assignment and the death of her ex-boyfriend Garrison during the bust on Serrano, Walker suggests the couple reconnect over the harvest festival and chili cook-off. As the cook-off commences, things are still volatile between the Davidson and Walker family, with Dan and Liam nearly coming to blows again and Bonham ready to jump into a potential fight too while Trey and Micki have a big argument about unresolved trauma that Micki endured while undercover. Micki privately reveals to Abigail that reuniting with Garrison made her question her future with Trey, with Abigail advising Micki to stay honest with herself as she regrets how she personally handled the barn incident with the Davidsons years ago.
The spies find a buyer in Denise’s husband Dan, with the other spy being killed over the sheer amount of money Dan is offering to gain access to the surveillance system. Back at the chili cook-off, the final match-up comes down to a blind taste test between the Walker and Davidson’s chili conducted by Walker himself. Walker awards the Davidsons the winner of the cook-off, with Gale announcing to the crowd that her family is back in Austin to stay while sharing that Colton was caring for an injured horse. While Stella expresses that she is happy the stray horse has found a home, she is visibly upset that Gale used the animal as a way for the Davidson family to rehab its public image.
Back at the ranch, Walker admits to Abigail that he gave the competition to the Davidsons as a means to make amends with everything that had happened to the Davidsons in the past, with Walker confessing his nightmares have returned because he was the one who accidentally set the barn on fire; this entire confession is secretly observed by Dan. While Micki and Trey reconcile at their home, Walker prepares to go to bed but finally notices the surveillance camera hidden in one of his family photos, quietly keeping this revelation to himself while mulling over this shocking news.
To see the Walker family’s newest problems, Walker airs Thursdays on The CW.
