Vigilante’s Shocking Flaw Caused the DCEU’s Newest Apocalypse

[ad_1]

In Peacemaker, Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante accidently helped the newest threat to the DCEU, and it’s all because of some poor decision-making.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Peacemaker Episode 6, “Murn After Reading,” now streaming on HBO Max.

In Season 1 of Peacemaker, Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante has proven to be quite a scene-stealer. Not only has he upstaged John Cena’s Chris in the field, Vigilante has also convinced A.R.G.U.S. he’s worth keeping around, despite his weird, Deadpool-esque ticks and idiosyncrasies.

Basically, they view him as the ultimate killer and someone needed for the Butterfly mission as the aliens plot to take over Earth. Unfortunately, as much as he’s an asset, Vigilante just kickstarted the DCEU’s newest apocalypse, and it’s all due to a very shocking flaw.

In the latest episode, Chris was hunted down by Sophie Song and the cops after being fingered for Annie’s death in the premiere. Song got Chris’ racist dad, Auggie, off the hook and convinced a judge they needed to execute a warrant for Chris’ arrest. However, as Chris and Vigilante hid out in a giant tree outside his trailer, Vigilante’s immaturity and a bad habit no one saw coming ruined the world in a big way. When they were sneaking out of the trailer, Vigilante insisted he keep the jar with the Goff Butterfly in it. However, when Chris asked him why he didn’t have a getaway car, Vigilante confessed he took an Uber because he wanted to engage Chris so they could day-drink.

Chris was stunned as it was unprofessional, especially for hitmen of their nature. It painted Vigilante as immature and irresponsible because with the mission still ongoing and possible jobs in the field, they should be sober in the day. Vigilante then reverted into jerk mode, possibly his Adrian Chase persona, coming off way too human as he mimicked getting hammered, which caused him to lose balance and fall from the tree.

He crushed the jar, allowing Goff to escape. Whilst the Butterfly initially said she was looking for peace, she ended up ambushing Song. The alien rammed down her throat, killing her and taking over her body. Now, it’s possible to blame Chris for keeping the creature, but he planned to interrogate it since A.R.G.U.S. can’t be trusted.

The real blame now deserves to go to Adrian, though, because by imitating a drunk “bro,” he let Goff go free, causing the Butterfly to flee and gather other Butterflies. They eventually killed and took over the precinct, including other officers, prisoners and the new boss, Locke, providing the new Song Butterfly with the perfect army. And as a bonus, they got their hands on Chris’ diary, allowing them to frame him and discredit attempts to expose the invasion.

As a result, the only folks who know about the aliens and can mount an offense — Chris and A.R.G.U.S. — will be at each other’s throats, while the Song Butterfly has a legion to continue the quest for dominance, all due to Vigilante’s childish ways.

To see how Vigilante unleashed the apocalypse, Peacemaker is streaming now on HBO Max.
