Venom Just Showed Eddie Brock a Horrifying Warning About Marvel’s Symbiotes

[ad_1]

In Venom #1, Eddie Brock position as the new King in Black has allowed him a glimpse into the terrifying future of the Marvel Universe.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Venom #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

The past few years have seen Eddie Brock’s life changed in almost unimaginable ways. From finding the son he never knew about to violently deposing the god of all symbiotes, it seems like there is little that the universe hasn’t thrown at Eddie. Unfortunately, the terror isn’t quite over for the newly crowned King in Black. Not only has he just caught a glimpse of the terrors that await him in the future, but he has also learned that there is nothing he can do to stop the horror.

Eddie Brock is used to playing the hero, but acting as the living god of the symbiotes has been an incredible challenge. Brock has been granted amazing new powers, including the ability to traverse the cosmos through the eyes of the symbiote Hive. It is in this manner that Eddie is able to transport himself thousands of light years from Earth in the blink of an eye in Venom #1 (by Al Ewing, Ram V, Bryan Hitch, Andrew Currie, Alex Sinclair, and VC’s Clayton Cowles), using one of the roving symbiotes in the far reaches of space as a temporary host when they pick up a distress signal from a nearby freighter.

Brock mentally joins the team of symbiotes as they deal with the Skrulls who attacked the ship, but space pirates are not the worst thing on board. When a creeping anxiety washes over Eddie, he shifts into another symbiote’s body to see what is happening, and discovers another symbiote standing amidst a pile of corpses after having massacred the ship’s crew in their own escape shuttle. The evil that emanates from this other symbiote isn’t quite the same as that of Carnage or even Knull, but they are certainly just as menacing, especially once they’ve left Eddie with a dark omen of the future.

When this mysterious new entity confronts Brock, it gives him a warning of things to come that he ensures the new king is unescapable. It explains that whatever is headed his way is something that Eddie won’t see coming, and that there is nothing he can do but tell the people he loves to run before it arrives. Despite being the center of the symbiote Hive, there is nothing Eddie can do in the face of this dark messenger as the symbiote crumbles away before his very eyes.

Not only did the symbiote that warned Eddie appear to be under the influence of another, but it also appeared to have been completely detached from the Hive, something that should be impossible. Even worse, if there was any truth to the warning, Eddie’s life, as well as those of the people he loves may be in peril sooner rather than later, and there may be nothing he can do to protect them.

There have previous glimpses of what the future holds for Eddie Brock, and none of it looks good. Still, this latest revelation comes as even more of a surprise, and implies that there is nothing Brock can do to stave off the misery that is headed into his life.

This shocking turn of events is terrifying, considering that Eddie Brock is has more power than he has had for the majority of his life, and still seems to be helpless in the face of this new, pending threat. Considering everything that Eddie has faced in the past, it’s hard to imagine anything that could pose this degree of threat to the powerful, new King in Black.
