Valve Claims It Has Yet to Find a Game the Steam Deck Can’t Play

Valve claims that the current version of its recently announced Steam Deck console has not encountered a game it cannot run.

Valve announced its first console, the Steam Deck, to the surprise of many earlier this month. Now the company is claiming that the handheld device can run anything players throw at it.

Speaking to IGN, Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais explained, “We’ve been looking at various games the past few years in the back catalog, but the real test for us was games that were coming out last year. They just couldn’t really run very well on the previous types of prototypes and architectures we were testing.” He continued, “This is the first time we’ve achieved the level of performance that is required to really run the latest generation of games without problems.” Griffais added, “All the games we wanted to be playable is, really, the entire Steam library. We haven’t really found something we could throw at this device that it couldn’t handle.”

Valve released the Steam Deck’s specs along with its announcement. The console possesses a 7-inch touchscreen display, trackpads and a built-in gyroscope for basic motion controls. Consumers can choose between a 64GB eMMC hard drive, a 256GB NVMe SSD and a 512GB NVMe SSD. Additionally, the Steam Deck is also compatible with microSD cards. Valve has previously claimed that the Steam Deck battery lasts for up to eight hours with light use.

Steam Deck will be released in December in the U.S, Canada, Europe and the UK. The console will be released in other regions in 2022.
