Previously unseen gameplay footage of the iconic bounty hunter Boba Fett pursuing a target in the infamously canceled Star Wars 1313 surfaces online.
Previously unseen footage of Boba Fett in the now-canceled Star Wars 1313 surfaces, reminding fans of what they could have had.
Posted by YouTube channel The Vault, the brief video sees Boba walking through a seedy market on the planet Coruscant. Citizens are scattered around the location with some idly chatting to one another while others peruse a range of bizarre shops and stalls. A scripted fight breaks out, forcing one of the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunters to push aside one of the participants before watching his target bolt around the corner. The footage then cuts to the actual chase which would have seen players leaping across buildings and dropping down steep inclines to capture their prey.
This newly discovered footage confirms that Star Wars 1313 would have played similarly to Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series. While the game’s first trailer showed off plenty of cover-based shooting and scripted set-piece moments, Boba Fett’s chase will undoubtedly look familiar to anyone that’s played through any of Nathan Drake’s explosive adventures. Previous promotional material for the game focused on two unnamed smugglers engaging in a high-stakes blaster fight after a gang of thieves attempts to steal their cargo. The recently unveiled prototype is the first time gamers will be able to see how Boba Fett would have appeared and played in the game.
Star Wars 1313 has become notorious for its sudden cancelation. Following an impressive demo shown off at E3 2012, Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, and subsequently the game’s developer LucasArts, resulted in the project’s termination. Based on the Boba Fett gameplay and the original trailer, many fans believe that the game was in development for some time and would have been nearing an official release date. Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm had attached a launch window to Star Wars 1313.
Little was known about the plot of 1313 but the developer did confirm that it would be embracing a darker, grittier tone in comparison to the rest of the Star Wars universe. The narrative was intended to revolve around Boba Fett in his early adulthood as he’s learning the trade secrets of bounty hunting amongst the seedy underworld of Coruscant.
While fans may still be disappointed that Star Wars 1313 will never see the light of day, there are plenty of other upcoming games set in the galaxy far, far away to look forward to. Respawn Entertainment recently announced that it’s working on three new Star Wars games, including a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, while the release of the long-awaited LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is right around the corner on April 5.
