Monster Hunter fans planning to visit Universal Studios Japan in 2022 might want to start preparing their bodies for a serious workout. This is because the upcoming Monster Hunter VR attraction at Universal Studios Japan, titled “Monster Hunter World: Iceborne XR WALK”, requires participants to lug around 8 kilograms (around 18 pounds) worth of gear for 25 minutes, among other physical demands.
In this attraction, players select one of five weapons from the game – great sword, long sword, hammer, switch axe, and heavy bowgun – and venture into a snowfield reproduced in 360-degrees in virtual reality. From there, players can either simply explore – collecting items, going through caves, and climbing steep cliffs along the way – or track down and defeat Velkhana, a monster introduced in Iceborne. Cooperative play with up to 4 players is allowed, and players are said to be able to feel “the roar of huge monsters, the surrounding wind pressure, and the impact of weapons in one’s grip”.
In exchange, players will be required to wear various tech equipment (pictured above) that weighs 8kg in total throughout the 25-minute experience. As such, the USJ official website notes that “those who are not confident in their physical strength and those who cannot walk without assistance (including those who cannot walk without a cane) cannot experience this attraction”.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne XR WALK will be available at Universal Studios Japan from January 21 to August 28, 2022. Further details are available on the official website of the attraction.
