In the new Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, friends-turned-enemies Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker will once again clash lightsabers, and numerous facts about their highly awaited encounter have reportedly surfaced. We’ve known for a while that Darth Vader will return in the Star Wars program, with Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker alongside Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan, and the reunion appears to be well worth the wait.
The reported account of the scenario comes from the website Making Star Wars, which describes the series’ Obi-Wan Kenobi as “very much the master in this series.” The website claims:
…the change in direction Obi-Wan takes after this story is why he allows his powers to fade. In this series, we are getting peak Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Around this time in the story
Obi-Wan Kenobi is dispatched to a planet on a rescue mission. The captive prisoner is very important “to the cause” and Kenobi has to save said person from the Inquisitor’s clutches. The main inquisitor holding the prisoner was performed by Moses Ingram in these sequences. The success of this mission is most likely what springs Vader forward into action.
The castle and the consequence
As matters escalate from the trouble Kenobi is causing, we see Mustafar again. Darth Vader rises from his throne and hurriedly walks to his ship’s hanger to intercept his old master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Based on reference material, it appears as if Vader is using his TIE Advanced to depart the castle. It wasn’t actually built on set but it shares certain characteristics with the Inquisitor ships.
The fighter’s trunks
Obi-Wan is wearing his clothes from Revenge of the Sith for the fight or damn near close enough. The white tunic, no robe. His white tunic is more worse for wear now. He looks a little older, a little more tattered. Like an aging gunslinger, his swagger remains the same as it ever was. When Kenobi walks out onto the dirt field, this is the guy that said Sith Lords are his “specialty.”
Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy previously described the Obi-Wan versus Darth Vader moment as “the rematch of the century,” and based on this rumored description, it seems that she was absolutely right. Directed by Deborah Chow, Obi-Wan Kenobi begins with Obi-Wan watching over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, ten years after the events of 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and takes the character on an adventure that is expected to lead into Star Wars: A New Hope.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is scheduled to be released on Disney+ in 2022, and will consist of six episodes.
