[ad_1]

To celebrate its 35th birthday, Ubisoft is offering gamers a chance to download and keep the vibrant cult-classic platformer Rayman Origins.

Ubisoft is giving gamers a free copy of the cult-classic platformer Rayman Origins.

To celebrate the publisher’s 35th birthday, fans can log into Ubisoft Connect and claim a free copy of Rayman Origins. To get your hands on the game, you may need to act quickly; the offer is only available until Dec. 22, after which you’ll need to pay full price for the reboot of the iconic Rayman franchise. While this is excellent news for PC players looking to experience one of Ubisoft’s better platformers, console gamers will need to sit this one out. The deal is not available on PlayStation or Xbox devices or the Nintendo Switch.

Released in 2011, Rayman Origins sought to reinvent the beloved character for a modern audience. Playable either solo or with up to three friends, the game features Rayman and his gang dashing through a dazzling variety of gorgeously stylized levels. It was met by widespread praise as fans and critics alike lauded its compelling level design, foot-tapping score and stunning visuals. Origins proved so popular that it spawned a sequel, Rayman Legends, which was released in 2013.

The Rayman series is one of Ubisoft’s longest-running franchises, spawning several equally-popular spin-offs. While the original game in the series had humble beginnings on the original PlayStation, Rayman grew to span 45 different games across multiple platforms, including mobile devices.

Despite Rayman being one of Ubisoft’s most beloved characters, the limbless hero has been relatively dormant on modern home consoles since Legends. Audiences may be more familiar with Rabbits, a collection of boisterous creatures originally introduced in Rayman: Raving Rabbids. The loud-mouthed bunnies have become somewhat of a symbol for Ubisoft, even starring in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a crossover game featuring many of Nintendo’s most popular characters from the Mushroom Kingdom.

While fans of Rayman may be pleased to return to Origins, Ubisoft has recently been in hot water. The company received widespread criticism following the announcement that it would slowly be adding non-fungible tokens into its catalog of modern games, starting with Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. The news was received poorly by fans, who cited environmental concerns as well the implementation of another dubious monetization system.

If you’d rather not play Rayman Origins, you can also find the game on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS.
