Avatar the Last Airbender and the Legend of Korra are based around a vast and well-built fantasy world. One essential thing to this world is bending. In this list, we will be counting down the best benders of the element earth. This will be based on raw power and skill and be ordered based upon their on-screen feats, sorry comic and novel fans.
We shall start off by saying who just misses out on being in the top ten. These include Haru and his father, both of whom were shown to be competent at the art form, but not really masters. Next up is the metal bending police force of Republic city, who are all pretty average earth benders with the distinction of being metal benders. Next up are general Fong, who did some amazing feats in the single episode he was in. Kyoshi would have made it on here had I not disqualified avatars other than our two main protagonists. Finally, Wing and Wang, the grandchildren of Toph who invented a sport around metal bending. On to the list proper!
10) Long Fen and the Dai Li
The Dai Li are consistently competent and are all clearly masters. Four of them were able to take down the great wall of Ba sing Sae and in groups could even take on Toph. Long Fen has the distinction of being one of only two characters in Avatar the Last Airbender to get a direct on-screen kill. The glove hands make them deadly opponents.
9) Aang
Probably equal with his successor despite a troubled start, Avatar Aang seemingly mastered earth bending by the time of Sozin’s comet. He could make stone armor and see through his feet, both high-level and powerful moves. It was never his favored element though.
8) Korra=
Apparently, Korra is the first metal bending avatar, a fact that feels out of character for the previous one but is clearly true. While earth is not her favored element, she is consistently shown as being strong in it. Her feats are great, such as knocking down buildings and being able to draw poison out of her system. While it may not be her favored element, Korra has proved that she is a master earth bender.
7) Bolin
Bolin is the resident earth bender of the team avatar in the legends of Korra. He is good enough at earth bender to compete in the sport professional bending. While he is an excellent earth bender, what gets him above the Avatars is his lava bending. Lava bending is arguably the most powerful form of earth bending as any earth-based attacks can be used as ammunition. Bolin is a moderately good lava bender. If not for that Bolin would be behind Korra and Aang
6) Suyin Beifong
Suyin Beifong is the founder and head of the metal clans in Xoafu. Suyin is a great bender but the fact that she was unable to get all of the metal out of Korra knocks her down a notch. She took out Pl’i with her metal bending and was a clear master of her craft. She was also powerful enough to break her sister’s grip on her, severing a cable and their relationship at the same time.
5) Kuvira
Kuvira is the protege of Suyin Befong and the former dictator of the Earth Empire. Her skill at metal bending allowed her to go toe to toe with a traumatized Avatar. She was able to control a giant mech suit. Truthfully, the majority of her power comes from her charisma and brutality, but behind her smug looks is a metal bending master. Kuvira beat Su at her own game and has the tenacity to fight anyone.
4) Cheif Lin Befong
Daughter of Toph and the chief of the Metal bending police, Lin Befong is incredibly talent. Lin has shown herself to be a very good earth bender and an excellent metal bender. Her will is as strong as steel and her power is not to be underestimated.
3) Gyzan
Ghazan is a member of the anarchist group the red lotus. He is Basically at the Toph of lava bending. Ghazan was able to single-handedly bring down the wall of ba sing sae and destroy an air temple. With just three pebbles, he could take out a battalion of White lotus guards. His mastery of Lava Bending makes him the most powerful of an already incredibly powerful group.
2) Bumi
Bumi only appeared in 3 to 7 episodes of Atla depending on how you count. His feats are all mighty. He was able to bend the entirety of the City of Omashu using just his mind. Even Toph needs to use her feet or hands. I would argue that he is equal with our inevitable number one spot, and he definitely has greater stamina as he is 113, and therefore far past his prime. He is a mad genius and an earth bending master.
- =Toph
She is known as the greatest earth bender in the world. Toph invented metal bending and pioneered seismic sensing which allowed her to see despite being blind. Her feats are incredibly mighty, being able to lift an entire library by herself at its weakest point when she is tired and on the unstable ground probably being her greatest feat. She was never shown to lost a fight on the show, and while age and the writer’s intervention stopped her from being able to do much on the Legend of Korra, her feats in ATLA more than makeup for it.
