Tony Stark Just Learned How Dangerous Galactus’ Ship Really Is

Iron Man #12 takes the Armored Avenger into the heart of Galactus’ ship, with the World Eater’s vessel nearly as deadly as the cosmic supervillain.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Iron Man #12, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Galactus may not be the threat he once was after being obliterated by Thor, following the God of Thunder gaining the Power Cosmic as well as the powers of the All-Father, but his massive worldship remains a fixture in the deepest, darkest recesses of the Marvel Universe and a threat in its own right. With the cosmic supervillain Korvac and his cult of supervillains eager to use the starship’s reality-bending capabilities to rewire the thoughts of all sentient life into a single hive mind, the technology on Galactus’ ship could do catastrophic damage if it fell into the wrong hands. In Iron Man #12 (by Christopher Cantwell, Angel Unzueta, Frank D’Armata and VC’s Joe Caramagna), the Armored Avenger has just seen firsthand how deadly the horrors inside Galactus’ worldship can be.

With his usual delusions of godhood, the resurgent Korvac has been steadily working toward forming and leading a collective consciousness to save the world from itself. Clued in on his old enemy’s return and fiendish plot, Tony Stark formed an impromptu superhero team and rushed off to beat Korvac to Galactus’ ship, only to be transported to a faraway planet by Stilt-Man for an extended detour. This culminated in the Living Tribunal sending Iron Man and the obscure hero Avro-X to Galactus’ ship ahead of Korvac, and even with this head start, the two heroes discover the dangers of Galactus’ security system.

As Iron Man and Avro-X infiltrate the ship, the security system comes online and constructs a hulking robotic sentry to deal with the intruders. Already struggling to combat one such opponent, the two heroes are surprised when the robot is able to replicate itself in a matter of seconds to continue the pursuit. While Iron Man is able to strike a critical blow to a sentry before he and Avro-X are overpowered, the robot instantly moves to trigger a self-destruct sequence, with Iron Man and Avro-X just narrowly avoiding being consumed by the epic blast before they continue to explore the worldship.

Galactus’ ship not only transports him to the planets he is going to consume but contains much of the advanced technology needed to transform entire worlds into consumable energy. With the capability of eradicating entire solar systems in mere moments, the worldship and Power Cosmic that it channels makes it one of the most formidable starships in the entire Marvel Universe. Even with Galactus recently being killed by Thor, the activated defense systems indicate that the worldship is still fully operational without the presence of the World Eater.

In anticipation of Korvac’s arrival, Avro-X heads off to find a way to disable or reprogram the worldship’s security system while Iron Man moves to head off Korvac and his forces at the docking bay.

With Iron Man outnumbered and outgunned by the cadre of supervillains, Tony is going to need a miracle if he hopes to save the day and survive the experience. Fortunately, Avro-X is able to reprogram the security system in time to turn the worldship against the intruders, and the system may prove to be just what the heroes need to gain the upper hand against the forces of Korvac.
