Tokyo Game Show Will Return To Being An In-Person Event This September

Tokyo Game Show

Tokyo Game Show is a yearly video game convention held in Chiba, Japan, usually focused on Japanese games and releases. It was held virtually in 2020, and a combination of online and in-person (for business only) in 2021, thanks to the ongoing COVID pandemic, but it will return to being a fully in-person event this year.

In the announcement of the event (via Gematsu), the organisers outlined the theme — “Nothing Stops Gaming” — and described 2022 as “the year to show the real spirit of games,” inviting everyone to “show your love of games to each other” after being forced to “give up doing fun things one after another over these two years”.

The in-person 2022 Tokyo Game Show will feature all the trappings you might expect of a giant consumer-facing game exhibition and convention: Merchandise stalls, VR and AR areas, indie game-focused booths, talks from industry professionals, the Japan Game Awards, and the Sense of Wonder Night, which invites indie developers to pitch their games in the hopes of receiving a prize.

There will also be online programs, including an online exhibition venue, a booth tour, free demos of games from the showfloor, and livestreams on Twitch, YouTube, and Twitter of event highlights with English translations available.

Would you attend a physical event right now? Do you have plans to go to one in the future? What would the events have to provide in order for you to feel comfortable? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
