CBR presents an exclusive first look at Todd McFarlane’s variant covers for Image Comics’ Gunslinger Spawn #1.
After the successful expansion of Spawn’s Universe, Gunslinger Spawn will be starring in his own comic book series this October, complete with a set of gorgeous variant covers illustrated by Spawn creator Todd McFarlane.
McFarlane and Image Comics provided CBR with an exclusive first look at McFarlane’s variant covers for Gunslinger Spawn #1, focusing on the Wild West Spawn Jeremy Winston. In addition to the variant cover drawn by McFarlane and colored by FCO Plascencia, the 1:250 incentive variant has also been unveiled, with each copy hand-numbered, signed by McFarlane himself and coupled with a CGC certificate of authenticity. Also revealed is the interlocking variant cover for Gunslinger Spawn #1, illustrated by McFarlane and series artist Brett Booth, which will interlock with the similar variant covers for King Spawn #1 and The Scorched #1.
Gunslinger Spawn #1 is written by McFarlane and illustrated by Booth, with a backup story written by Aleš Kot and additional art provided by Philip Tan, Kevin Keane and Thomas Nachlik. The series stars Jeremy Winston, a Spawn from the 19th century American Southwest introduced in 2002’s Spawn #119 by McFarlane and Brian Holguin.
June saw the release of Spawn’s Universe #1, an anthology special that teased several different ongoing series poised to significantly expand the flagship Image Comics title as it nears its 30th anniversary in 2022. This was followed by the launch of the new series King Spawn #1 in August, by McFarlane, Sean Lewis and Javi Fernandez, which went on to become a record-breaking sales success.
Written by Todd McFarlane and illustrated by Brett Booth, Gunslinger Spawn #1 goes on sale Oct. 20 from Image Comics.
