Three DC Heroes Took Down an Evil Superman in Seconds

[ad_1]

Three heroes from the DC Animated Universe’s Justice League show just how quickly they can take down Superman by working together.

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Justice League Infinity #3, on sale now from DC Comics.

The comic book miniseries Justice League Infinity continues the story of the widely acclaimed and enormously influential DC Animated Universe, more specifically with its final television series Justice League Unlimited. The story sees the DCAU’s greatest heroes face the wonders and terrors of the multiverse, with the Justice League menaced by the evil Nazi Superman analog Overman. And while the Man of Steel is formidable on any world, let alone one where he’s a genocidal maniac, he is shocked to discover that he is no match for three of the DCAU’s heroes working together as the trio makes short work of him in a matter of seconds.

After previously attacking Metropolis and declaring his intentions to conquer the DCAU after invading from his alternate universe, Overman was defeated after an initial skirmish and imprisoned in the Justice League’s headquarters. Enraged that the Martian Manhunter telepathically probed his mind to learn more about this evil, conquering Superman, Overman broke free from captivity to attack his would-be captors for such an injustice. And as Overman moves to murder the Martian Manhunter for invading his mind, three of J’onn J’onzz’s teammates immediately step in without hesitating for a second to defend their friend, with the brief showdown unfolding at the beginning of Justice League Infinity #3 by J.M. DeMatteis, James Tucker, Ethen Beavers, Nick Filardi and Tom Napolitano.

Wonder Woman Vixen Justice League Infinity Overman

As Overman lunges at the Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman lays the Nazi Superman out with an epic haymaker right to the jaw, joined by Vixen who delivers a simultaneous dropkick to the Ubermensch’s solar plexus. With Overman still feeling from the two mighty blows delivered by the two superheroes, Green Lantern steps in, with John Stewart completely enveloping the supervillain with his usual emerald energy. As Overman continues to struggle and threaten the Justice League, Green Lantern tightens the forcefield around him, warning him that if he continues to resist and mouth off, he will show him just how tight the field can get before Overman surrenders after J’onn threatens to invade his mind again.

Both Wonder Woman and John Stewart have singlehandedly subdued Superman in the main DC Universe before, reminding everyone just how powerful they really are. During the 2004 miniseries Green Lantern: Rebirth, while John was temporarily corrupted by the villainous fear entity Parallax, he incapacitated Superman by using firing his Green Lantern energy directly into the Man of Steel’s eyes after identifying them as a glaring weak point. In the lead-up to the 2005 crossover event Infinite Crisis, Wonder Woman took down Superman by cutting his throat with her tiara while he was mentally controlled by Maxwell Lord, showing that she could kill the Last Son of Krypton if she wanted.

For all his bluster, Overman isn’t the unstoppable conqueror he presents himself to be but someone that wouldn’t even require the entire Justice League to take down. Overman is starting to build up quite the losing streak in the DCAU, going down easier the second time than he did in his big DCAU debut. And with Overman put down by a fraction of the Justice League and a heroic, presidential Superman emerging from yet another parallel universe, hopefully the evil Man of Steel will stand down for good lest he violently be put back in his place for yet another failed rematch.
