The X-Men’s New Recruit Is Officially Better Than Several Major Mutants

[ad_1]

One of the new core X-Men keeps showing off their power, which suggests they may have the most potential on a team already full of powerhouse mutants.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for X-Men #3, now on sale from Marvel Comics.

While Omega-Level Mutants are considered to be some of Krakoa’s most vital figures, there’s something to be said about the more underappreciated power-sets that have made life on Krakoa so effective so quickly. Figures like the Multiple Man, Forge and Tempo might not be Omega-Level Mutants themselves, but they’ve got all kinds of potential. And now, a Generation X veteran is making a case that they’re the most important member on the team.

X-Men #3 by Gerry Duggan, Pepe Larraz, Marte Gracia and VC’s Clayton Cowles reveals just how capable Synch really is an X-Man — and makes a case for him potentially outclassing his teammates.

X-Men High Evolutionary Synch 3

Synch always had some of Generation X’s most potentially powerful abilities. Synch is capable of replicating the powers of other superhumans around him, even beyond mutants. He’s shown an aptitude for adapting to the varying powers he can utilize as a result, especially since being revived on Krakoa. He’s gotten plenty of time to show off his skills too, becoming the only survivor into the mission within the Vault and recently be elected to serve as a member of the X-Men. He’s also clearly displayed his abilities during his time with the X-Men: he’s copied the powers of his teammates with extreme ease, similar to how Rogue has long been able to duplicate other powers.

But in X-Men #3, he even goes beyond Rogue in terms of apparent potential. When the High Evolutionary and his forces arrive on Earth with a “present” in the form of a virus bomb that would sterilize humanity, the X-Men answer the call and do everything to keep him and his virus at bay. During the fight, High Evolutionary comments on his brief encounter with Rogue during her time with the Uncanny Avengers. But he’s far more intrigued by Synch, especially when he not only mimics the powers of his teammates Sunfire, but also that of his “daughter,” Luminous. Although he turns off her powers to cut off the abilities Synch can copy, High Evolutionary is clearly impressed by his feats — enough to even retreat on the condition that he gets a DNA sample.

It’s a major acknowledgment of Sych’s pure potential if even the High Evolutionary is intrigued. The villain has long been dedicated to designing perfect new genetically modified figures. Synch’s ability to not just control multiple unique powers but to do so with an extreme amount of control shows how strong of a mutant he really is. It’s not just Luminous who he’s adapted to and copied with impressive ease. When he copied Forge’s powers, Synch was able to easily keep up with the inventor. When he’s copied Marvel Girl’s telepathy, he’s shown a natural affinity for it. When he even copied Polaris’ control of magnetism in The Trial of Magneto, it was good enough to even catch Magneto by surprise.

All of this speaks to just how powerful Synch really is. He’s quickly proved himself just as capable as Rogue at essentially the same power, if not better. He’s also been proving that he might be the ultimate sub-in mutant, capable of filling in with any kind of power duplication as needed. Being an X-Man might just be a stepping stone for Synch, who could grow with the potential and use of his power to become one of Krakoa’s most important and flexible champions.
