The Witcher’s Henry Cavill shares a behind-the-scenes production selfie from his “private collection” ahead of the series’ Season 2 premiere.
Ahead of The Witcher’s Season 2 premiere, series star Henry Cavill shared a behind-the-scenes photo of himself in costume as Geralt of Rivia.
“A little something from my private collection,” Cavill captioned the photo, which shows the actor donned in the black cloak, silver wig and orange contact lenses of the show’s eponymous witcher. Cavill also joked that Geralt’s appearance in the photo made him look like a character from the Warhammer 40,000 universe. “I can’t decide if this belongs in a Witcher or a Warhammer section…maybe both? Neoth perhaps??” he added.
In addition to his Warhammer knowledge, Cavill has previously proven his affinity for the Witcher video game trilogy by developer CD Projekt Red. The star recently revealed he replayed all three of the Witcher games on the hardest difficulty to prepare for reprising his role as Geralt in Season 2. Cavill has also shown a dedication to the Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski, such as when the actor advocated for more dialogue and emoting from Geralt in Season 2 to better explore the character’s personality in the novels.
Netflix’s The Witcher finally wrapped production on its second season in March of this year. Season 2 entered production in August 2020, but filming saw numerous delays due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In addition to the delays, Season 2’s production also saw Cavill endure a painful injury that nearly ended his acting career.
Based on Sapkowski’s novel Blood of Elves and bits of Time of Contempt, The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, The Witcher Season 2 is set to pick up directly where Season 1 left off. Geralt and his destined protégé Ciri (Freya Allan) are bound for the fortress of Kaer Morhen, where he plans to train her to become a witcher with the help of his own former mentor, Vesemir (Kim Bodnia). A recent trailer revealed that Season 2 will also reunite Geralt with the bard Jaskier (Joey Batey) and see the mage Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) face a new series of trials and tribulations.
Season 2 of The Witcher will begin streaming on Netflix on Dec. 17. The show’s first season and an anime spinoff film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, are available to stream now.
