For the first day of Witchmas, Netflix treats audiences to a clip showcasing the brutal training that Ciri will endure in Season 2 of The Witcher.
Netflix’s Witchmas has arrived in time for Season 2 of The Witcher. The first day of the event brought audiences a clip from the upcoming series, showing Ciri undergoing Kaer Morhen’s brutal training.
The clip shows Ciri running and leaping through a wooden obstacle course while icy winter winds blow. Watching her are some of the witchers from the School of the Wolf including Lambert and Coën.
While there have only been a few clips and trailers for Season 2 of The Witcher, what Netflix has dropped has showcased some of the upcoming show’s most exciting action sequences, including an epic leshen battle, Geralt and Ciri’s encounter with Nivellen and more. These clips showcase the journey the witcher and Cintran princess will undertake, following their long-awaited union at the end of Season 1.
The clip was released on social media, where fans voted between “bravery” and the “law of surprise” the day before. Fans can look forward to more treats over the course of the next week. For Witchmas, Netflix will post a poll on social media, allowing audiences to vote between two or more presents, one being a surprise. It seemingly became an annual promotional event, beginning with 2020’s Witchmas, when Netflix released bloopers and interviews from Season 1, as well as teases for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.
The bulk of The Witcher Season 2 will adapt the events and characters of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Blood of Elves, which sees Geralt and Ciri winter at Kaer Morhen, where the princess trains under the guidance of Geralt and his fellow monster-slayers– Eskel, Lambert, Coën and their mentor Vesemir. However, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich previously teased one major difference: Season 2 will include more monsters than Blood of Elves.
In an interview with Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Hissrich stated “Blood of Elves lacks monsters. There’s just not very many. But we know from the games that people really like to see Geralt battling monsters, so we continued adding more monsters to Season 2.” Stills from Season 2 suggested as much, revealing the appearance of the leshy and a bruxa, among other things.
Season 2 of The Witcher has received generally positive reviews from critics, who have noted a marked improvement over the show’s first season. Some of which relates to a more expansive role for Geralt of Rivia, who was given more dialogue this seasons– a creative decision advocated by star Henry Cavill.
