Netflix debuts the official logo for the upcoming prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, in its casting announcement.

Netflix recently made some major announcements for the upcoming prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin. Alongside it, without any fanfare, the streaming giant also debuted the series’ logo.

Posting on social media, Netflix unveiled the full cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin with headshots placed under the series’ title, stylized to include mysterious symbols resembling crescent moons and other markings.

The logo’s clearer shapes — those of the crescent moons — do share similarities with some of the symbols found throughout The Witcher series. These symbols refer to Yennefer or magic, which could speak to The Witcher: Blood Origin‘s focus on the Conjunction of the Spheres, which, in Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels, brought magic on to the Continent, as well as humans, monsters and other creatures.

Netflix’s prequel series takes place 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher. It follows several elven characters: Fjall, played by Laurence O’Fuarain; Éile, played by Sophia Brown and Scían, played by Michelle Yeoh. A few details have been provided describing these characters.

Fjall is described as hailing from a warrior clan of elves, on a quest for redemption after failing to save someone he loved. Éile an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess who left her position as a Queen’s guardian — and subsequently her clan — to follow her heart as a nomadic musician. A major reckoning in an already tumultuous continent, however, forces Éile to return to her warrior lifestyle, setting her off on her own quest for redemption and vengeance. Finally, Scían is the last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves who launches herself into a deadly quest that will change the outcome of the Continent.

The recent casting announcement for The Witcher: Blood Origin confirmed several new characters. Mirren Mack will play Merwyn, Lenny Henry portrays Balor, Jacob Collins Levy was confirmed as the Wild Hunt’s Eredin, Lizzie Annis will play Zacaré, Huw Novelli was cast as Callan “Brother Death,” Francesca Mills as Meldof, Amy Murray as Fenrik, Nathaniel Curtis in the role of Brían, Zach Wyatt plays as Syndril and Dylan Moran will be playing Uthrok One-Nut.

Declan de Barra will serve as showrunner on the six-episode limited series, as well as executive producer alongside Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Matt O’Toole, Hivemind’s Jason Brown and Sean Daniel, and Platige Films’ Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko. No release date has yet been announced for the show.
