While Geralt’s list of lovers seems almost endless, The Witcher: Hearts of Stone has a surprising quest wherein Geralt meets Vesemir’s former lover.
While playing any of The Witcher games, players are familiar with Geralt’s long list of lovers, most of the past but a few too many in the present. However, during the quest Open Sesame! in the Hearts of Stone expansion in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we are surprised to learn more about one of Vesemir’s former flames, Countess Mignole.
As Vimmie Vivaldi introduces Geralt to his friends at the Borsodi Brothers’ auction, The Countess seems to notice his medallion straight away and recognizes that Geralt is from the School of the Wolf. Vimmie says Countess Mignole collects all things related to the Witcher profession, which is how he was able to spot the medallion. If Geralt asks more about her interest in Witchers, it eventually leads to him being able to buy various Witcher-related items from her, such as the diagrams for Viper armor and multiple Superior potion recipes.
After some conversation, she’ll ask Geralt to find her earring on the balcony. If he accepts, she follows him out to speak to him privately when he can’t spot the earring and just finds spilled wine. Slightly embarrassed, she shyly asks if Geralt knows Vesemir, allowing Geralt the opportunity to ask how they know each other.
Mignole says she met Vesemir in the Winter of 1234 while he was in Oxenfurt for a contract. She wrote him a letter after they noticed each other from afar, and the two meet up for a tryst before her father learned of it and chased him. He left behind his gambeson, which she kept and started her collection with, her prized possession. Vesemir never returned after Mignole’s father put out an arrest warrant against him. She later married, but her husband died young and left her a fortune, which allowed her to keep collecting.
If Geralt speaks to Mignole before The Battle of Kaer Morhen, he reveals that Vesemir is still alive and doing well and that he never saw him with a partner for decades, although it is not a topic they really discussed. Mignole seems happy to hear Vesemir is well but wonders if things could have been different between them. She asks Geralt to leave her to her thoughts and thanks him but asks he not mention their conversation to Vesemir.
If Geralt speaks to Mignole after The Battle of Kaer Morhen, he softly delivers her the bad news that Vesemir is no longer with them. She asks if he died like a Witcher, to which Geralt replies that he died like a hero. Upon receiving the news, she thanks Geralt but asks to be left alone more solemnly. Mignole will disappear from the game after this quest is complete.
