The Power Rangers’ Weakest Enemy Has Found a Powerful New Purpose

[ad_1]

The Power Rangers have just discovered a powerful new way to use their least powerful enemies, and it’s already helping them save the world.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers #14, available now from Boom! Studios.

Over the course of nearly three decades, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have stood firm as some of the most iconic figures in all of pop culture. In that time they have overcome a plethora of colorful foes, although they can most often be found battling against the monochrome Putty armies commanded by their oldest enemies. While these expendable foot soldiers might not be much of a threat on their own, the Power Rangers have just figured out how to use them to turn the tide of their most important fight yet.

When the Eltarian invasion of Earth began, it was only a matter of time before Angel Grove fell. Of course, the Rangers weren’t the only ones to suffer from the assault, as Lord Zedd’s minions were left to watch from afar as their home of Bandora Palace was reduced to rubble. Now the two forces have formed an unlikely alliance to fight back against the invading army, though it isn’t just the Evil Space Aliens who have aligned themselves with Earth’s heroes. As revealed in Power Rangers #14 by Ryan Parrott, Francesco Mortarino, Christian Prunesti, Raul Angulo, and Ed Dukeshire, the Power Rangers have also found Lord Zedd’s lowliest soldiers at their command, and they’ve found the perfect use for the Putties in their plans.

The Putties have been a part of the Power Rangers Universe made their first appearance in the debut episode of the original 1993 television series. Created by Finster and commanded by Rita Repulsa, these clay soldiers have long been relegated to the role of cannon fodder. In large numbers the Putties were a potent distraction, though they have never been much of a threat on their own. In fact, the only time the Putties have ever been something to worry about was after being supercharged by the power of Green Chaos Energy. Thankfully, they do have one other ability that has proven useful in recent days, one that stems from their very nature as living clay. Alongside Kimberly and Finster, the Putties were able to infiltrate the ship holding Zelya captive by posing as Eltarian soldiers until it was time to strike. This certainly doesn’t make them any more menacing than they already were, but it does serve as a powerful reminder of how dangerous these ground level foes can be.

The Chaos Energy coursing through them has made the Putty minions stronger than ever, but it is their rarely utilized shapeshifting that has made them a serious threat in recent months. Not only have they led the Power Rangers straight into a deathtrap, they have proven themselves capable of fooling even the Eltarian army. That being the case, the Putties could very well be the most underrated weapon there is in the fight for Earth’s future.
