The Ninja Turtles May Still Have to Pay for the Ghostbusters’ Mistakes

[ad_1]

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are about to face one of their greatest immortal enemies, but another could be on the way thanks to the Ghostbusters.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are about to step into the middle of their greatest battle yet, and they have no clue that it is even headed their way. As the Heroes in a Half-Shell fight for the fate of Mutant Town today, tomorrow holds a battle more menacing than the Mutanimals could ever be. The Rat King has returned with big plans in store, and he has amassed his own trio of the Turtles’ deadliest villains to help him in his grand scheme. Of course, the Rat King isn’t the only malevolent deity that the Splinter Clan has faced, and the last god they bested could come back at any time all thanks to the general ineptitude of the Ghostbusters.

Much like the Rat King and the rest of their siblings in the Pantheon of the TMNT universe, Chi-You is an ancient and undying deity with a penchant for frequent and unnecessary violence. Worshipped as a god of war throughout the ages, Chi-You was easily among the most fearsome of his brethren, making him one of the fiercest competitors in the Pantheon’s eternal game of toying with humanity. After confronting Kitsune over her alliance with Krang — which he considered a dastardly form of cheating — Chi-You was left stranded between dimensions by his sister through the use of her alien partner’s interdimensional portal technology. Unfortunately, it would be this same tech that set the ancient evil free after so many years during 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters by Tom Waltz, Erik Burnham, Charles Paul Wilson III, Cory Smith and Dan Schoening.

While testing a portal device based on Fugitoid’s designs, the Turtles, April O’Neil and Casey Jones find themselves transported to a New York City unlike anything they recognize instead of to their underground lair as intended. This isn’t the worst thing that could have happened, but unwittingly releasing Chi-You from his prison was pretty close to it. Though they were quick to jump into action, the heroes of the Splinter Clan never stood a chance on their own, and once Chi-You began possessing human hosts such as Casey the Turtles were both outgunned and outnumbered.

Thankfully, the Ghostbusters arrived not a moment too soon to run the incorporeal fiend off. Following this initial defeat, Chi-You used Casey Jones to help him find stronger humans to possess, all in the pursuit of building yet another grand army for him to command and conquer the world with. Even after transforming a stadium full of hockey fans into monstrous soldiers of his own, Chi-You was ultimately unable to protect himself from the combined might of the Ghostbusters and Splinter Clan, and like all unwanted spirits was left in a ghost trap for the rest of eternity. That would be an otherwise comforting thought, especially considering Chi-You’s lust for destruction, if not for the fact that the Ghostbusters had simply tossed him back into the portal rather than anywhere particularly safe.

In a somewhat humorous turn, Winston Zeddemore decides to fling the trap containing Chi-You through the portal and back into the Turtles’ universe, with the coordinates for his trip having been set to the middle of outer space rather than any actual destination. It might seem like a fitting end, but in all actuality, it’s more ominous than anything else. Chi-You, the Rat King, and all of the other members of the Pantheon are effectively immortal.

Their father, the Dragon, may have been slain back in 2019’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #100 by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, and Dave Wachter, but so far he is the only member of the Pantheon to meet any sort of permanent end. That coupled with the fact that the Splinter Clan and Ghostbusters have already teamed up once more in recent years, not to mention the Rat King’s new game, all add up to the perfect time for Chi-You to make yet another glorious return. With any luck, that won’t be something the Turtles are left dealing with anytime soon, but at least they already know who to call if it does.
