On December 1st, 2021, the next chapter in Peach Momoko’s Demon Days saga arrives at your local comic shop: Demon Days: Rising Storm #1. Then, a week later, a reprint of the first issue will arrive, including additional material.

The Demon Days series has seen the release of three issues so far, with the first, Demon Days: X-Men #1 having arrived in March 2021.
Then, Demon Days: Mariko #1 arrived over the summer, in mid-June 2021.
And the most recent issue of the series, Demon Days: Cursed Web #1, was released earlier this week.
The story takes place in a universe that combines Japanese mythology with Marvel continuity for an unexpected and singular incarnation of our favorite superheroes.
The art and covers are both by Momoko, whose Marvel career has enjoyed a meteoric rise (if you’ve visited a comic shop since 2018, you’ve probably seen her arresting variants). Momoko’s distinctive aesthetic style is clearly influenced by her previous career, in which she worked as a tattoo artist.
Although Momoko may be most widely known for her cover art at this point, Demon Days is not her first venture into interior art: she has had several stories featured in Heavy Metal magazine, including 2017’s “Shaman Himiko” (Heavy Metal 288) and 2018’s “Tohko” (Heavy Metal 290).
The English adaptation and dialogue for the series is by Zack Davisson, and the lettering is by Ariana Maher.
Demon Days: X-Men Creator’s Cut #1
If you haven’t had a chance to pick up this series yet, then Demon Days: X-Men Creator’s Cut #1 is an ideal opportunity. This reprint of the first issue will present the initial chapter of the Demon Days story in black and white (quite the departure from the incredible watercolors that the original printing enjoyed).
In addition to the black and white presentation, the official press release from Marvel Comics promises that the X-Men Creator’s Cut will include “layout, pencils, character designs, and unused art.” Consider how excellent the back matter for this series has already been, that’s good news indeed!
Demon Days: Rising Storm #1
As you may have been able to guess from the title, the next issue of Demon Days will center Momoko’s unique incarnations of Ororo and Thor, who we got to glimpse in the final pages of Cursed Web #1. Will you be picking it up when arrives at your LCS on December 1st?
