The Mandalorian’s Luke Skywalker Actor Cameos in New Book of Boba Fett Episode

The Book of Boba Fett viewers might not recognize the actor playing the New Republic’s Lieutenant Reed, but they’ve seen him before.

WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett’s latest episode, now streaming on Disney+.

The actor who recently played Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian just made a cameo in the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett — and viewers might not realize it.

Max Lloyd-Jones has a brief role in the episode “Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian,” but not as Luke. Instead, the actor appears as X-Wing pilot and the New Republic’s Lieutenant Reed, who appears along with a returning Captain Carson Teva. The two pilots spot Mandalorian Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, test-piloting his newly acquired and refurbished Naboo N-1 starfighter over the planet Tatooine.

Lloyd-Jones made his Star Wars debut in the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, when Luke made a surprise appearance, seeking out the fledgling Jedi Grogu, who was in Din Djarin’s care. The actor’s face was never seen, however, as the face of a young Mark Hamill was superimposed via CGI over that of Lloyd-Jones. A younger Luke was required for the episode, as the time period for both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett is roughly five years after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

“Chapter 5” ends with Boba Fett’s ally Fennec Shand locating Djarin and asking him to join Fett’s crew as Fett prepares to wage war against the Pyke Syndicate. Djarin agrees to sign up — and work for free — but not before he “pays a visit to a little friend.” That little friend, of course, is Grogu, who Djarin says he not only wants to check up on, but also deliver some newly forged Beskar armor to the foundling Jedi.

As Grogu is now in Luke’s care, though, any appearance by the popular character once known by fans as Baby Yoda might also feature the Jedi Knight’s return. And with Lloyd-Jones’ involvement in The Book of Boba Fett, it seems likely the actor will return as Luke — or at least as his body double, anyway.

Like Pascal, Lloyd-Jones made his debut without his face being seen. Pascal played Djarin for the near entirety of The Mandalorian’s first season before his face was first shown in the season finale episode “Chapter 8: The Redemption.” Lloyd-Jones only made one appearance as Luke before returning to the franchise as Lieutenant Reed.
