The Joker’s Solo Series Comes to an End in April

[ad_1]

Former GCPD Commissioner James Gordon is forced to make a difficult decision in Joker #14, which ends the first “season” of the popular DC series.

James Gordon isn’t going to let the Joker get the last laugh.

In April, DC Comics will be ending its ongoing Joker title with a confrontation that has been simmering since the series’ beginning. DC’s solicit for Joker #14, written by James Tynion IV and drawn by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Cam Smith, explains that bullets will fly and blood will be shed as the hunters arrive at the Sampson estate. This situation forces Jim to make a tough call, one that he has been dreading since he first crossed paths with the Joker. However, the adventures of Batman’s arch-rival may yet continue down the line, as the publisher teases that this issue will only conclude the first “season” of Joker.

DC’s Joker series began last March and follows Gotham City’s former police commissioner, James Gordon, as he hunts down the Clown Prince for all his crimes. The series spins out of Batman‘s crossover event “Joker War” and has proven a hit with fans, earning itself a consistent place among DC’s top-selling books. In addition to the main storyline, each issue of Joker includes a backup written by Tynion and Sam Johns that centers on Punchline.

The end of Joker coincides with Tynion’s departure from DC Comics. Tynion, who first began writing the adventures of Gotham’s inhabitants in 2012, announced over the summer that he had turned down a three-year contract renewal with DC. Instead, the writer has signed on with Substack to produce regular content through the platform’s subscription-based service. Additionally, Tynion is currently writing The Department of Truth for Image Comics.

While Joker steps away from the spotlight, the Dark Knight will have his hands full as he crosses paths with Deathstroke. In March, DC’s Batman, Robin and Deathstroke Inc. titles will crossover for “Shadow War,” a three-month storyline. After the death of Ra’s al Ghul, Batman’s longtime rival and Damian Wayne’s estranged grandfather, Slade Wilson becomes a wanted man. However, the caped crusaders are only the start of Slade’s problems, as Talia al Ghul and the League of Shadows seek revenge against the mercenary for his crimes.
