The Hellions Are About to Get a Deadly X Of Swords Rematch

[ad_1]

Still struggling to cope with recent events, the Hellions are now posed to face a deadly team they first encountered during X of Swords.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Hellions #13 by Zeb Wells, Rogê Antônio, Rain Beredo & VC’s Ariana Maher, on sale now.

The Hellions have had a rough time on Krakoa. The collection of damaged mutants have been trying to find their way in the world, and going through dangerous (and often deadly) missions for Krakoa.

Now one of their most notorious (and hidden) failures has resurfaced. The Hellions were just confronted by the Locus Vile — the same group of vicious figures who absolutely destroyed the Hellions in a fight that occurred during the course of X of Swords.

During X of Swords, Mister Sinister led his Hellions team on a mission into Amenth, under the guise of finding and destroying Arakko’s blades, thereby rendering them incapable of taking part in the tournament against Krakoa. In reality, Sinister just wanted the chance to steal unique DNA examples from Amenth, enraging the team when they were confronted by the seemingly telepathic Tarn the Uncaring. Insulted by Sinister’s plans, Tarn unleashed his own mutant team, the Locus Vile, against the Hellions. Catching the Krakoan mutants off-guard, Nanny and Orphan-Maker were violently killed. Wildchild held the line so the rest of the team could escape with a seriously wounded Havok, eventually falling in battle as well. While the rest of the team reached Krakoa, the fallen mutants were resurrected by the Five and drastically changed in the process, becoming harsher figures once they were restored.

Unfortunately the actions of the team have returned to haunt them in Hellions #13. After finally returning to Krakoa, the Mister Sinister-clone who was left for dead in Amenth sneaks back into Bar Sinister, sporting a series of scars and seemingly broken by Tarn’s tortures. The clone confronts Sinister and attracts the attention of the Hellions. But the returned Sinister isn’t alone as the entire Locus Vile have come to Krakoa with him, eager for a rematch.

Led by Tarn, the Locus Vile are the genetically modified experiments of the sadistic mutant. Their members include Mother Rapture, Hex Butcher, Sick Bird, Amino Fetus, and Mudgear the Recanter. Each of them displayed brutality in their previous appearance, viciously attacking the Hellions and even trying to eat them as the battle waged on. If they defeat the Hellions here, they could turn their ravenous attention to the rest of Krakoa and cause a great deal of damage, while potentially enabling Tarn to access Mister Sinister’s stores of viable mutant DNA for cloning purposes. If he gains that edge, Tarn could become an even more dangerous threat.

However, there is a possibility that the Hellions will come together as a team and gain a serious win. On top of potentially learning the truth about how little Sinister actually cares about them and their mission to find redemption, the Hellions could use this opportunity to effectively win back some pride after spending most of X of Swords effectively being a punching bag. Following the disastrous events of the Hellfire Gala, it would be a good team-building exercise for the group to gain a win — especially one over the dangerous and fearsome force that previously wiped the floor with them.
