The Flash’s Eddie Thawne Returns for Season 8

The Flash alum Rick Cosnett, who played Eddie Thawne throughout the show’s first season, confirms his return for Season 8.

Rick Cosnett is returning to The Flash for the DC television series’ upcoming eighth season on The CW.

After previously teasing his imminent return, Cosnett confirmed today on Instagram that he will be appearing in The Flash Season 8, which is slated to kick off with the five-episode “Armageddon” event starting Tuesday, Nov. 16. “If you hadn’t guessed… I’m in the new season of [The Flash],” he wrote. Cosnett starred as police detective Eddie Thawne — a direct ancestor of Barry Allen’s arch-nemesis, Eobard Thawne — throughout The Flash‘s first season from 2014 to 2015.

In The Flash‘s Season 1 finale, “Fast Enough,” Eddie took his own life so as to erase Eobard Thawne from existence. However, despite then departing The Flash as a series regular, Cosnett subsequently reprised the role of Eddie as a special guest in two episodes of The Flash Season 2. He also appeared as the character via archive footage in an episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 2. Cosnett’s most recent turn in the Arrowverse came when he portrayed the Speed Force itself in the Flash Season 3 episode “Into the Speed Force” in 2017.

The Flash Season 8 premieres Tuesday, Nov. 16 on The CW.
