The CW’s ‘Gotham Knights’ Just Another Bat-Show Without Batman

The Arrowverse is expanding once more. According to Deadline, Berlanti Productions, the studio behind Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, is developing a program called Gotham Knights that will, sort of, bring Batman into this shared television universe. In The CW’s upcoming Gotham Knights series, Batman’s adopted son partners up with the children of Gotham City villains (Bob Ivy? Kelly Cobblepot?) to clear their identities. 

The synopsis reads:

In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.

The CW is looking to further build on its DC comics-inspired programming slate with Gotham Knights, a drama in the works from Batwoman executive producers Chad Fiveash & James Stoteraux and the show’s executive story editor Natalie Abrams. The project comes from Greg Brlanti’s Berlanti Productions, which is behind the CW’s Arrowverse, and Warner Bros. TV, where the company is based.

Written by Abrams, Fiveash & Stoteraux, Gothom Knights is based on Gotham Knights characters from the DC comics created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. So it looks like “team-failure” who works on the simply awful Batwoman have been hired to create another Batman-family show without the Dark Knight. What exactly is the point?
