A variety of variant covers promoting The Batman appear on DC’s March releases, featuring art from Lee Bermejo, Rafael Albuquerque and more.

A multitude of stunning variant covers showcasing The Batman are set to release alongside a variety of books — from Detective Comics to Justice League — in March, coinciding with the film’s release.

Batman #121, featuring a variant cover by Lee Bermejo, kicks off the celebration of director Matt Reeves’ moody take on the Dark Knight, releasing on March 1 alongside Batman: Killing Time #1, which boasts a variant by Carlos D’Anda. Batgirls #4, Detective Comics #1056 and Batman: The Knight #3 continue the trend on March 8, featuring covers by Jonboy Meyers, Puppeteer Lee and Rafael Albuquerque, respectively. One week later on March 15, Catwoman #41, Justice League #74 and Nightwing #90 hit the stands with covers by Jenny Frison, Ben Oliver and Riccardo Federici. Finally, Harley Quinn #13 closes the month on March 22 with a variant by Simone Bianchi.

DC typically produces alternate covers to coincide with its big-budget movie releases, and in 2021, the company rolled out covers for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, including one by Jim Lee that revealed Martian Manhunter’s surprise inclusion in the film. The company similarly debuted an array of variant covers for The Suicide Squad.

The Batman, set to hit movie theaters on March 4, has been teased by both Reeves and Robert Pattinson — who plays the Dark Knight and his alter ego Bruce Wayne — as possibly setting up a new franchise and depicting a deeply personal look at Batman that has never been seen on film. While the movie is not connected with the wider DC Extended Universe, multiple spinoffs, including a tentatively titled prequel Gotham PD series, are currently in the planning stages.

“It’s a really, really unusual Batman story, and it almost seems harder for me to imagine it being a series afterwards [sic],” Pattinson recently explained. “I mean, they always have that little bit at the end, that’s like: ‘…and coming up!’ But other than that, it feels strangely personal. I think people will be quite shocked at how different it is.”

The Batman features Pattinson as a young Bruce Wayne in the midst of his second year of crimefighting, grappling with secrets related to his family’s legacy. Paul Dano portrays the Riddler, who is portrayed in an eerie fashion more akin to the Zodiac Killer than his usual colorful, costumed portrayal. The movie also features Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Jim Gordon and a nigh-unrecognizable Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

All of DC’s March issues and The Batman variant covers are available for pre-order now.
