Marvel Comics has provided CBR with an exclusive preview of Iron Man #16, by Christopher Cantwell, Julius Ohta, Frank D’Armata and VC’s Joe Caramagna. In the preview, Tony Stark/Iron God arrives on Earth, where he’s confronted by the Avengers and the Fantastic Four.
Previously in Iron Man, Tony found himself fighting against Michael Korvac, who sought to steal the Power Cosmic from Galactus’ worldship. Together with an eclectic team consisting of such Marvel stalwarts as Patsy Walker/Hellcat and James Rhodes/War Machine, Tony pursued Korvac into space. However, he was unable to stop the villain, forcing him to follow Korvac into the unknown to get powers of his own. Their battle was eventually halted by a group of cosmic entities and Korvac released into the custody of Eternity. From there, Iron God went to Earth
In Iron Man #16, Tony arrives in New York City, though he’s so massive that he begins scaring people. When his team communicates that to him, Tony shrinks down to regular size. That’s when the Avengers and Fantastic Four enter through a portal. After Tony explains that he’s defeated Korvac, Steve Rogers/Captain America expresses his concern about his old ally’s new transformation. Tony tries to play off his new god status as being just like Thor, but the God of Thunder disagrees. Tony doesn’t press the issue and even admits that his power cosmic allows him to “do pretty much anything.” That’s when Captain America responds, “So what are you going to do?”
While that’s where the preview ends, future solicitations for the book question whether Tony will truly be able to do good with his powers, despite his intentions. He will, according to those solicitations, eventually find himself up against Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom and Korvac again. However, when that latter battle rolls around, Tony will seemingly no longer have his newfound powers.
You can see CBR’s exclusive preview of Iron Man #16 below alongside the solicitation for the issue. Releasing Jan. 26, Iron Man #16 features covers from Alex Ross and Pete Woods.
