The MCU, or Marvel Cinematic Universe, steadily expanded its cast of characters ever since 2008’s Iron Man, and even after the Avengers assembled in 2012’s The Avengers, many more powerful heroes and villains continued to be introduced, from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to Gamora the assassin and, most of all, the mighty Thanos.
The MCU usually keeps its characters alive for future installments. Still, when the time is right, some heroes or villains will either perish or retire from the business to make room for new characters, such as Captain America, who retired, or Tony Stark, who gave his life to stop Thanos. When Spider-Man: No Way Home ended, who remained in the MCU as the strongest characters still alive?
10 Spider-Man Is Back To Basics
Peter Parker is best known for not just his spider theme, but also for his brilliant scientific mind and his creativity in battle, making him stronger than his fairly basic powers would suggest. He can crawl on walls, shoot webs, evade danger with the Spidey Sense, and more.
Spider-Man is a fine melee fighter, and he can easily capture villains or catch falling debris or people with his webs. However, he has lost all access to Stark tech, and he must now protect New York City with a basic, low-tech suit he made himself.
9 Ant-Man Can Change Size At Will
Scott Lang is a reformed criminal who now uses Hank Pym’s incredible suit to change size at will as an ant-themed superhero. Scott can slip past his enemies as an ant-sized warrior in battle, then expand to full size and take everyone by surprise. He also packs a mean punch while tiny.
If necessary, Ant-Man can also expand to become a towering giant, as he demonstrated during the Leipzig airport battle and the final fight against Thanos in Endgame. What’s more, Ant-Man can shrink or expand other objects with thrown discs to great effect in a fight. His powers definitely encourage some creativity on his part.
8 Black Panther Rules & Guards Wakanda As King
King T’Challa is both the benevolent ruler and the #1 protector of the hidden African nation of Wakanda, having succeeded his father T’Chaka after the explosion in Vienna during 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. T’Challa fought hard to defeat his rival Killmonger, and then he helped defend Earth from Thanos’ legions.
Black Panther died in the Snap, only to be revived later along with the rest of the fallen. He’s back in action, and he still has all his Vibranium suits and advanced Wakandan tech at his disposal too. Despite Chadwick Boseman’s death, MCU fans are hoping to see more of T’Challa in the future.
7 The Incredible Hulk Is Somewhat Nerfed Now
Ordinarily, the Incredible Hulk has limitless potential as an angry warrior, and in Marvel comics, he is easily as powerful as Thanos. In the MCU, the Hulk isn’t quite that strong, but he was still powerful enough to defend NYC from the Chitauri, fight Ultron’s robot armies, and much more.
The Hulk changed somewhat in Endgame, becoming a more even blend of Bruce Banner and Hulk. He’s still strong, but he’s not exactly an invincible juggernaut of infinite anger either, so he ranks oddly low among surviving MCU characters after Spider-Man: No Way Home ended.
6 Valkyrie/Brunnhilde Is A Steadfast Asgardian Warrior
Valkyrie made her first appearance in Thor: Ragnarok as a lost and jaded delinquent living on the distant planet of Sakaar. Once known as Brunnhilde, she served faithfully among Asgard’s valkyries in battle, but the wicked Hela slew them. Now Thor’s new valkyrie friend feels all alone.
Thor and Valkyrie teamed up to escape Sakaar with Bruce Banner, and they confronted Hela once again until Surtur finally destroyed Asgard. Valkyrie, for her part, is a formidable warrior who can devastate her foes with swords, spears, and her bare fists, and she is a fine pilot too.
5 Wanda Maximoff Is Seriously Powerful
Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch first appeared in 2015’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, where she and her brother Quicksilver fought on Ultron’s behalf before turning on him during the battle for Sokovia. Now Wanda is an Avenger, though she took Vision’s death extremely hard.
Wanda wields incredible supernatural power in battle, allowing her to manipulate people’s minds, telekinetically move large objects, and much more, giving her vast offensive and defensive potential. However, her physical strength and endurance are unremarkable compared to most characters, such as Valkyrie or Captain America.
4 Shang-Chi Now Wields The Ten Rings
Shang-Chi is a martial artist and is one of the newest characters to appear in the MCU, making his debut after the Blip. He grew up with his ancient father, Xu Wenwu, who pressured him to become an elite assassin who would think nothing of taking lives for the sake of the mission. However, Shang-Chi wants more than that in life.
Shang-Chi broke away from his father and become an independent hero. He confronted Xu Wenwu in the distant realm of Ta Lo, defeated him, and vanquished The Dweller-in-Darkness. Now Shang-Chi has the Ten Rings for himself, greatly augmenting his already formidable combat prowess. Few villains can stand in his way now.
3 Doctor Strange Is A Brilliant & Mystical Wizard
Doctor Stephen Strange has only made a few appearances in the MCU so far, but he has made an excellent case for himself in that time. He trained to become a master of the mystic arts, and he takes that duty quite seriously. He also protected the Time Stone before surrendering it to Thanos.
Even without the Stone, Doctor Strange is vastly powerful as a heroic wizard, using all kinds of mind-bending magic to warp the reality around him and vanquish his foes in dazzling displays of mystical power. He was even in a position to be the new Tony Stark in Peter Parker’s life for a time.
2 Thor Is The Mighty Thunder God
The might Asgardian prince Thor appeared early in the MCU, and he had a reverse-isekai adventure where he learned true humility. Now he is absolutely worthy to wield the power of his hammer, Mjolnir, though he has also learned to not rely too heavily on it. He is not, in fact, the god of hammers.
Thor is easily one of the MCU’s strongest characters after the events of No Way Home. He has incredible strength, endurance, and stamina as an Asgardian hero, and he has wielded both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker. He also learned how to command the power of devastating lightning anytime he needs it, even without Mjolnir.
1 Captain Marvel Is As Strong As Superman
Carol Danvers was a jet pilot before becoming Captain Marvel, and she is an incredible powerhouse of a hero in the MCU. She is also a half-Kree who can travel between planets and solar systems to defend not just the people of Earth, but all people in the cosmos from danger.
Due to her exposure to the Tesseract’s power, Captain Marvel can wield cosmic energy to an impressive degree, and she has immense power as a melee fighter, too. If necessary, she can also fire photon blasts to strike down foes from afar, and augment her power with Binary if she must.
