Jeff Lemire, creator of Sweet Tooth, Descender and Black Hammer, has signed an exclusive deal with Image Comics to publish his forthcoming projects.
Award-winning comic book creator Jeff Lemire has signed an exclusive deal with Image Comics.
Lemire’s deal with Image will see him bring all of his forthcoming projects to the publisher. Lemire, who has previously released Royal City, A.D.: After Death, Descender, Ascender, Family Tree, Plutona, Gideon Falls and Primordial through Image, says he appreciates the creative freedom the publisher allows, as well as the company’s support on his various projects. Speaking on the new partnership, Lemire said, “I’m excited to make Image the exclusive home for all my projects in the years to come, both solo projects that I will draw myself, and my various collaborations.”
The first book to be published under Lemire’s new deal with Image will be Little Monsters. The series pairs Lemire with frequent collaborator Dustin Nguyen, who recently worked with Lemire on DC’s Robin and Batman. Little Monsters centers on the Earth’s last children, who happen to be vampires. Due to their condition, the children have been able to navigate the ruins of humanity, but tension within their ranks causes the friends to splinter, setting them out on paths of self-discovery. The series’ first issue is due out in March.
After Little Monsters, Lemire will be reuniting with his Gideon Falls and Primordial collaborator Andrea Sorrentino for a new line of books titled The Bone Orchard Mythos. Beginning with an original prelude available in May exclusively for Free Comic Book Day, each standalone story in the series will have a distinct distribution method and contribute to a larger, interconnected horror universe. Subsequent releases in The Bone Orchard Mythos include an original graphic novel titled The Passageway in June and a mini-series titled Ten Thousand Black Feathers in September.
However, while fans can expect to see Lemire bring his new properties to Image, he will continue to honor his previous agreements with Substack and Dark Horse Comics. Lemire regularly releases digital chapters of Fireflies through his Substack, with plans for a print release down the line. Furthermore, Lemire is writing more installments in his Eisner Award-winning Black Hammer franchise for Dark Horse, with development underway for the next series, Black Hammer: Madame Dragonfly, with co-creator and artist Dean Ormston.
In 2021, Netflix adapted Lemire’s Sweet Tooth into a television series. Originally published through DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, the series follows a young boy named Gus who has to navigate a world that wants to kill him and other children born with animal parts. The second season of Sweet Tooth will begin filming later this month. Lemire’s works Descender, The Underwater Welder, Essex County, Snow Angels and Family Tree are also under development for media adaptations.
