Supergirl: Lex’s Fate Was Designed for a Return

[ad_1]

Supergirl star Jon Cryer wouldn’t be surprised if Lex Luthor returns in another Arrowverse series, as his series finale fate intentionally left the door open.

Lex Luthor lives! In the Supergirl series finale, the self-appointed Man of Tomorrow found himself sucked into the Phantom Zone when his plan to defeat the Super Friends backfired. As a result, Lex is down, but definitely not out. According to Jon Cryer, that was entirely by design, so that it is possible for him to resurface on another Arrowverse series down the line.

“Certainly, I would not be surprised that that happened,” Cryer told CBR when asked about his interest in returning. “Everybody made sure to leave the door open for that. The toughest thing in the last year was the quarantine rules made shooting episodes much more arduous than they normally would be. So that made everything kind of loaded, so I’d say that, before they dropped the quarantine, it was very unlikely that Lex would ever come back, but now that they’ve dropped the quarantine, it’s possible.”

As to which series he’d like to come back to, he added, “I think they’re doing so many things! The Crisis showed that Stargirl was in that universe, and Doom Patrol, and even Titans was in that universe. I’d love to — you know, I think if they come up with a fun arc, I’m open to all of them.”

This wouldn’t be the first time Lex Luthor put in an appearance on another Arrowverse show. After all, he played a prominent role in the 2019 Arrowverse crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” which took place across SupergirlArrowThe FlashDC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman. The event gave Lex a direct hand in the death and rebirth of the multiverse, which left him with the upper hand when Supergirl returned to its regular programming. This set him up as the Season 5 villain, which — in turn — gave him the space he needed to send Kara to the Phantom Zone in the premiere of the sixth and final season.

Following his success at finally defeating Supergirl, Lex found himself greatly discontent; after all, he had no more challenges in his life. As such, he decided to travel to the far future, where he met and fell in love with the fifth dimensional imp Nyxly. He spent much of Season 6 attempting to woo her, and the eventual rift between them distracted him to the point that it ultimately led to his defeat.
