Superboy Absolutely Demolished DC’s First Evil Superman

[ad_1]

On a mission with the Suicide Squad, Superboy faces off against DC’s first evil Superman in an epic showdown that demonstrates his true power.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Suicide Squad #6, on sale now from DC.

One of the most surprising members of the Infinite Frontier Suicide Squad has been Superboy, coerced to join the team after being kidnapped by Amanda Waller and forced to follow her every order. While the Boy of Steel has been kept on a short leash after being drafted onto Task Force X, a mission to Earth-3 pitting the Suicide Squad against the Crime Syndicate of America has given Conner Kent the opportunity to cut loose against the morally inverted team’s leader Ultraman. As the two heavy hitters clash for the fate of two worlds, it’s clear that Conner is more of a Man of Steel than this evil Superman will ever be.

Ruling over Earth-3 with an iron fist, Ultraman possesses all the powers of Superman but without the strong moral compass characteristic of Clark Kent. With so much of Earth-3 twisted from the main DC Universe, this iteration of Superman wasn’t weakened by Kryptonite but further empowered by it, as Bloodsport discovered while performing reconnaissance on Earth-3 on Waller’s behalf. With Ultraman craving more Kryptonite and targeting the DCU to find it, along with learning why the alternate universe was investigating his world, Waller decided to dispatch Superboy and the main contingent of the Suicide Squad to battle the Crime Syndicate and rescue Bloodsport before they could stage their own invasion of the DCU, with the confrontation taking place in Suicide Squad #6 by Robbie Thompson, Eduardo Pansica, Julio Ferreira, Dexter Soy, Alex Sinclair and Wes Abbott.

Superboy Ultraman fight

Superboy leads the rest of the team to rescue Bloodsport from the Crime Syndicate and extract Black Siren, Earth-3’s version of Black Canary, as the latest recruit onto Task Force X. In order to buy his teammates more time, Superboy decides to confront Ultraman alone as the enraged Crime Syndicate leader is incensed that he has been outmaneuvered by invaders from another universe. After Ultraman taunts Conner for being little more than a clone, going as far as to call him an abomination, Superboy lashes out and beats Ultraman within an inch of his life, shocking even Waller at his unbridled ferocity.

While Superman and Superboy have disagreed with one another before, Conner and Clark haven’t really been in an all-out fight in the main DCU. In the Injustice Universe, Superman mortally wounded Conner when he led the Teen Titans against the Man of Steel’s burgeoning regime, with the Titans putting Conner in the Phantom Zone so he could survive his injuries. The biggest fight against a fellow Kryptonian that Conner has engaged in so far was against Superboy-Prime, with the evil Superboy from Earth-Prime killing Conner during one fight while a rematch against the resurrected Conner in the 31st century led to Conner emerging triumphant with a little help from Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Superboy Ultraman fight 1

Superboy’s fight against Ultraman is a stark reminder of just how powerful Conner truly is when he’s not holding back against his opponent. It is also a reminder that while Conner has chosen to honor Superman’s legacy, half of his genetic makeup still comes from Lex Luthor, with the brutality and willingness to kill that Superboy displays as he pummels Ultraman.

Ultraman is enraged that Superboy bested him in one-on-one in combat and while Superboy was called away, it’s a humiliation that the leader of the Crime Syndicate is unlikely to forget any time soon.
