Suicide: DC Comics Intentionally Making a Mockery of Superman

In the span of less than a week, Superman, arguably DC Comic’s flagship character, has been reduced from his role as the most famous and powerful superhero in the world into a sniveling, bi-curious, climate change protesting, anti-American shadow of his former self, or more technically, of his father. Why it was only last Monday that DC Marketing proudly announced that Jonathan Kent, the son of Clark Kent, and the new standard bearer of the Superman persona, was “bisexual”.

The mainstream comics media was so thirsty for more high-level superhero gay conversions, and their panties were still moist after what happened only two months earlier with the Boy Wonder, that they ignorantly missed that DC was really only hedging their bets by labeling Kent as “bisexual”. I mean, how else do you explain how a young man who’s only experienced same-sex attraction, and has never dated a female, is anything other than “gay”? But DC wasn’t quite willing to label him GAY just yet…

But the global news outlets only knew what DC was telling them, “Superman is bisexual and here’s a picture of him, in uniform, kissing a pink haired boy!!” That picture was reprinted around the world, and the result was praise from the leftist media and Twitterati, who still won’t buy the comics, while longtime DC Comics readers quietly, but permanently, decided never to buy another comic book from the woke publisher.

But the deconstruction wasn’t over. Only a couple of days later, a bizarre image of Superman, his boyfriend, the new gay Aquaman, and several other clownish figures carrying placards, protesting climate change. Why do I call it “bizarre”? Well, Superman has superpowers you see. In fact, many of these characters do. Could they not fly over to China, the largest polluter in the world and largest emitter of carbon dioxide in the world, and shut down their toxic dumping? In fact, while the Son of Kal-El is over there, maybe he could save the Chinese Ughers? Or the LGBTQ community that’s put to death for their attraction?

As Dean Cain, who played Superman in the popular television series Lois & Clark said last week:

There is a clear agenda here. It’s globalist, it’s anti-America, but it’s not bold and it’s not brave.  

Robin, Batman’s famed red-headed sidekick, came out as bisexual recently, and honestly, who is shocked about that one?  The new Captain America is gay. The character of Alex (my daughter in the live-action series “Supergirl”) was lesbian. A gay or bisexual superhero is not groundbreaking in 2021. It’s banal. I have zero issue with that. I’m all for inclusiveness and acceptance and tolerance. It might be more interesting, however, if they created new characters instead of retrofitting the identity of existing ones.

“Brave” would have been to do some of this 30 years ago. Or to depict Superman, or Jon Kent, fighting for the rights of LGBT people in Iran where they’ll throw you off a building for the “offense” of even being suspected of homosexuality. And why doesn’t Superman fight the injustices that created the refugees whose deportation he’s protesting? Digging deep into those issues — that would be brave. That would be informative. I’d read that comic book.

“Bold” would be fighting for the rights of Afghan women to attend school and be able to live free and go to work, and fighting for the right for boys to not be raped by men under the supposedly newly enlightened Taliban.

There is genuine evil in the world.  Actual corruption and government tyranny.  Plenty of real-world things to fight against. Like people being put into Chinese concentration camps because of their religion. Or human trafficking — honest-to-God slavery — taking place all over the world today.  It exists. Right now, and in our own hemisphere. Drug cartels trafficking people across the border, sexually molesting young women. Brave and bold would be to tackle those issues and shine a light into that darkness. I’d love to see the character doing that. I’d read that, too. 

The creative team, for their part, have been blocking critics on social media with a fury. But what else would we expect from a writer that’s known for adding wokeness to many of the comics he’s worked on in recent years?

“When I was asked if I wanted to write a new Superman with a new #1 for the DC Universe, I knew replacing Clark with another straight white savior could be a real opportunity missed,” Tom Taylor told IGN. “I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes. Today, Superman, the strongest Superhero on the planet, is coming out.”

Taylor further explained what a new Superman should fight for: “Can a seventeen-year-old Superman battle giant robots while ignoring the climate crisis? Of course not. Can someone with super sight and super hearing ignore injustices beyond his borders? Can he ignore the plight of asylum seekers?”

Tom Taylor is also Australian, which might help explain why over the weekend, DC gleefully announced that Superman’s motto would no longer be fighting for “truth, justice, and the American way.“

That’s right.  It was announced yesterday at DC FanDome (their cheap virtual convention) that Superman’s motto is evolving to “Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow.” In honor of the “real-world superheroes who are striving to make this world a better place, the next generation of Superman characters” like Jon Kent will be fighting for “Truth, Justice and a Better World”, as first introduced in SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #1. Where we first learned that he’s going to fight “real-world problems” such as climate change, that he’ll protest the deportation of refugees, and date a “hacktivist.”

Granted, the truth is that the copyright had run out on “Truth, Justice, and the American Way,” so why bother to renew it, when you can just make Superman a more global, gay icon and save a few bucks?
