Stray: Release Date, Trailer, Plot & News

[ad_1]

Stray combines a gritty, mysterious cyberpunk world with an adorable feline protagonist. Here’s everything we know so far about BlueTwelve’s cat game.

Stray was a stand-out announcement during last year’s Future of Gaming event in which Sony finally revealed the PlayStation 5’s design. While not much was revealed about the game in it short reveal trailer, audiences were immediately drawn to the game’s gritty, android-filled cyberpunk world and, of course, the adorable cat wandering through it.

While Stray is still a little ways off, we have learned a bit more about developer BlueTwelve Studio’s game thanks to publisher Annapurna’s recent showcase. Here is everything we know about Stray so far.

Stray Trailer

Over a year after its initial reveal trailer, fans finally got to see more of Stray in a four-and-a-half minute long gameplay walkthrough that confirms that this is a third-person puzzle-adventure game with impressive graphics. In it, we see the cat navigating dark, unwelcoming environments and using some basic abilities, like carrying an object in its mouth and dropping it to break glass, to solve puzzles. This trailer also revealed a drone companion named B-12, who will accompany the cat on its journey and help it communicate.

What Stray Is About

So far, all we know about Stray‘s plot is that it follows a cat trying to find its family. On this journey, the cat will meet and befriend B-12, who helps navigate this strange and mysterious world. The cyberpunk city filled with humanlike machines is sure to play a major role in Stray‘s storyline, as the developers describe it as “a long-forgotten” place the cat must escape while uncovering its secrets.

What We Know About Stray

As is logical for a cat-centric game, Stray‘s trailer shows it will feature a mix of stealth, playfulness and (sometimes) chaos in order to achieve the feline protagonist’s goals. The cat will be able to interact with the environment in different ways, though it looks like things like examining and jumping between ledges will be controlled with simple button presses when a prompt arises rather than actual platforming.

The cat will also encounter enemies, which is will have to escape using speed, jumping and spells. It’s not entirely clear yet how these “spells” work, but the trailer does show a purple light, likely coming from B-12, vanquishing small bug-like creatures and causing a humanoid creature to flee.

When Does Stray Release?

While Stray was initially announced to be coming in 2021 and, at one point, was suggested to be releasing in October, the game has been delayed to 2022. In a tweet, the developers revealed this decision was made to ensure both Stray‘s quality and the team’s well-being. No exact date was given, but BlueTwelve is aiming for sometime early in the year. When it does launch, Stray will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
