Stephen King Joins the #SaveManifest Movement

[ad_1]

The horror legend Stephen King has joined the fan movement to help get Manifest a fourth season after it was seemingly cancelled for good.

The fan movement to try to bring Manifest back from the dead (just like the passengers on the mysterious Flight Montego Air Flight 828 at the heart of the series, who disappeared one night flying back to New York from Jamaica and reappeared five years later, with no one on the flight having aged a day) has gained an important ally, as horror legend Stephen King has thrown his support behind the #SaveManifest social media movement.

The push to possibly bring Manifest back from cancelation is one of the more unusual cases of a canceled TV show getting a second life, because Manifest‘s cancellation came at a particularly strange time in the life of the series, right when it was the hottest TV series on the popular Netflix streaming service.

King routinely makes recommendations of films and television series to his more than six million followers on Twitter, and support from one of the most famous horror writers of all-time is certainly welcomed by anyone.

Manifest had decent ratings on NBC, but not so good that it was a clear cut renewal choice for Season 4. Creator Jeff Rake had a plan for six seasons of the series, but he is now unable to finish the story as he had it originally planned. The show was really done in by a tricky case of streaming rights.

You see, Manifest is one of the most popular shows on Netflix (it is still in the Top 10 on the site and was at the very top spot for nearly a month), so streaming success would normally be good news for a TV series, but the problem is that while Manifest is owned by NBC, its streaming rights were with Netflix. Of course, since the show started, NBC launched its own streaming service called Peacock. Under normal circumstances, NBC would just move Manifest to their streaming service, like it did for A.P. Bio. However, since it is contracted to Neflix, that could not occur.

Instead, if it were to continue, it would have to be with Netflix getting involved in renewing the show, and the money involved in licensing a network show are a lot different from the money involved in producing a show themselves. So Netflix passed on Season 4 of Manifest.

However, the Law & Order spinoff that NBC planned to replace Manifest with on the Fall schedule has been canceled, giving Manifest new life, and perhaps Stephen King’s support can join other fans in convincing NBC to give the show another chance.
